No expansion

Or at least not today.

While I'm surprised, I agree. There's not really one team available that provides a clear benefit of expansion, much less 2-4.

But...there are going to be more moves, and we might re-evaluate. I could see some teams from the AAC (Cincinnati, Houston, maybe UCF) and Mt. West (BSU, Air Force, Colorado State) joining up with parts of the Big 12 to form something new. I could see the Big 10 absorbing ISU and Ok State and going to 16 teams. And, I could see (although far less likely) scenarios where UA, ASU, and CU get targeted as partners to form a new conference.

This alliance thing with the Big Ten and ACC is interesting, and it also feels like a way to collectively push back on the SEC before it just takes over college sports. Take your leverage where you can get it

I suspect this was done to allow the Big-12 to strategically figure out how to move on from Texas and Oklahoma as well

Just exploring the related tangent...If you're an Oklahoma State fan, where's your head now?

You're not a bad program. You've had some solid seasons in the not-too-distant past. But your conference is essentially dead, the SEC isn't interested, and the Pac-12 just decided not to pick you up either.

Are you trying to pair up with Kansas or Iowa State to ask the Big Ten to take you? Are you willing to step down to the AAC or Mt. West? Are you looking at joining the remnants of the Big 12 and a couple G5 teams (BSU, Houston, Cincinnati, SMU for example)? Or, do you try to raid the Pac-12 (UA, ASU, CU) and create a new version of the Southwest conference? What's the best move now?

To me, trying to join the Big Ten seems like the best alternative. Stepping down to G5 is like giving up, and fans will be outside the stadium with torches and pitchforks. Resurrecting the Big 12 with G5 teams is only slightly better than that, and will probably come with a massive loss of revenue. Raiding the Pac-12 seems highly unlikely...since you can't offer any of those teams a guarantee of survival, much less a revenue stream.

Problem is that you need the Big 10 a lot more than they need you...and you're really not bringing much to the table.

Incidentally, in the unlikely event that the Pac-12 imploded, or decided to jettison WSU in favor of "something better," I think OkSU's current position (and that of ISU and KSU) could very well parallel the spot we'd be in.

I still think that a lot of what's going on is that everyone is publicly saying that they aren't doing anything just to keep OU, Texas and the SEC from gaining any leverage on the buyout discussion.
