No wonder we keep recruiting for this cycle

Better that than transferring : )

I didn't watch much bball until later in the year, that guy was electric, super fun to watch. I'm glad I didn't miss him in a Coug uni.

I think it's significant that he clearly mentions his intention to maintain his college eligibility in the process. He can test the waters and if it appears he won't get drafted, he can always come back for his junior year. I think Franks, Elleby (after his freshman season) and Hawkinson all did this and came back. Keeping fingers crossed, he could have a monster year for the Cougs next year if he stays.

Glad Cougar

I think it is more probable than not, he returns. He is testing what the NBA thinks about him. They will also give him an idea of what he has to work on. That he has battled injuries does not help his draft status. NBA teams may want him to play a full season healthy before the use a draft pick on him. However, some team may tell him he is work a second round pick.

I agree. That was the most important part of his post. There is a good chance he is back next season.

A last pick of 2nd round ULTIMATE FLIER PICK.

The collegiate, and ex, former NBA players, pros, coaches, announcers, etc, that covered WSU's NIT games, fans, experts, pundits, etc, constantly compared EFE and Gueye to Dominique Wilkins, Shawn Kemp, etc, and said that they were future NBA prospects, pros, players. But reading between the lines, interpreting what they were saying, most think that Efe, Gueye are still RAW, need some work on their game, development, and that Efe needs to show that he can have a FULL, HEALTHY, INJURY FREE, EXTREMELY PRODUCTIVE YEAR, before he is ready to be anything more then last pick of 2nd round at best.

It’s absolutely the right move at this stage for Efe and really has no drawbacks. He gets legit feed back from the NBA people and will get to compare himself to other potential prospects. He still has all options open to him, go pro, return to WSU or transfer to another school. It has zero negative impact for him. That being said he won’t be drafted or offered anything in terms of NBA options next year but depending on his status in school and personal goals he could choose to begin his oversees career. 8pts and 5 rebounds is a hard sell even with all the explosiveness.

Sure, except when Erick Dickerson comes in and tells him he has a bright future in the D league. Or G league.

I don't care for this "dip your toe in the water" bs as to how it further erodes the college game. These kids are surrounded by sycophants and no one is there to tell Efe the truth, which is "you have huge upside but need to develop your game A LOT."

Baynes left school with 12.7ppg, 7.5rpg, and 1.3 blocks per game and he had to battle, and still battles, to find a place in the NBA.

I hope some NBA personnel will shoot him straight, because everyone benefits from him staying at WSU another year and improving his perimeter shooting and shooting under the basket, as well as defending other bigs 1v1 in the paint.

I agree! I don’t like the test the waters NBA situation or the easy transfer portal but it is the world we live in. I also agree it’s the agents and other influencers who are the biggest problem because they have a interest/ agenda that doesn’t necessarily match that of the player. Hopefully he listens to the NBA guys who really could careless about Efe but would probably shoot straight with him. If every player who believed the announcers / press clippings of them being a “next level player” made it the NBA would have 10,000 teams and seasons would have to be at least a month longer than they are now!
