Not a good sign.

Because he tells a joke?

We might have a luau in it before it goes...

I don't think getting rid of the sand pit is a joke.

What's next, Rolo leads the Cougs to a 4-8 record to demonstrate his amazing sense of humor?

He did say “before it goes”. I do hope they use it because lower leg injurie seemed to have been avoided during Leach’s time on campus
I don't necessarily disagree. But, each staff has their own way of doing things and Rolo and his training staff went in another direction. Not surprising, as Leach was a unicorn using the beach.

Nobody besides Mike Leach uses a sand pit. Nobody but Mike Leach has a training program built around using it. I’m honestly shocked it’s still there, I figured they would have removed it last year.
So did I. Maybe because of covid, any construction project was delayed.

Mike Leach is the head football coach at Mississippi Stare.

Pat Chun hired Nick Rolovich to be the head football coach at WSU.

I don’t ask my spouse to use my ex-wife’s recipes while preparing dinner.
Well said. He’s not being paid $3 mill to copy Leach. If the kids need to F around in the sand they can go down to the dunes. This is a non issue and I like that he’s poking some fun at it.

Who else besides Leach uses a sand pit?
Searching for "sand pit training football" or something similar gives some interesting results. More than I would have expected. Still rare.

In any case, agree it's a non-issue. I liked what seemed to be the impact of the sand pit, a perception of fewer lower leg injuries, but coaches do their own things.

He has a good reason for wanting to ditch it, too ... he's trying to get more turf real estate on Rogers. He's not doing it just to be his own guy.

You may have heard that some schools are located near beaches or other natural sand features, making it unnecessary to build a sand pit.

Not even the good ones?
First, Observer, that was a GREAT line. Kudos!

Second, Gib, you beat me to it. I certainly have a half dozen of my mom's recipes that I asked my wife to use. I don't have an Ex, but if I did and she had a couple of things that I really liked, I'd probably want them.

But then, very little on my emotional side gets between me and my food...so there is that...

As for the beach, what can we say? It worked. The rash of high ankle sprains from the previous 3 head coaches (Price, Doba and Wulff all had them) were cured. Seemingly cured overnight. Using the beach as punishment drill is probably a judgement call. But using it as conditioning clearly worked. It may not be the only thing that would work, but the beach worked. If Rolo doesn't want the beach, then he needs another approach that is similarly effective. End of that story.

Hawaii under Rolo would take pictures at the beach working out in the sand. Imagine stumbling onto a good training idea going for PR stunt, taking another job with a ready made sandpit to continue the workouts, and being too stupid keep using it.

Perhaps Leach beach is a desert or silica sand and doesn’t meet Rolos high standards of sea sand.

I would scream at the TV during the Wulff and Doba years when I saw less than half of our linemen wearing knee braces. It would piss me off because when I watched teams like Bama, Ohio State, etc play, every single one of their linemen wore braces. 100%
When CML came on board I noticed from day 1 how every one of our linemen had braces on. It's my opinion that that alone may have had an awful lot to do with the decline in legs injuries during his tenure.

And there was no spike in ankle injuries. The reasoning against using knee braces was that they just transferred the shock from the knee to the ankle.

You are a wise man, indeed.

"Hey honey, you know the ex sure made a great apple pie. It'd be great if you made one like hers. And while you're at it, she sure got my whites whiter, how about.....".........GONG goes the frying pan. You wake up two hours later and spout Fred Williard's immortal line..."Whaaa happen?"

Among other things.

Wearing a brace where there is no inherent "need" for one can lead to injuries because the muscles and connective tissue that should be becoming stronger are being compensated for. Its a huge debate in the weightlifting world - supported vs non-supported and how it affects your joints and connective tissues. Boils down to what you want to believe, because there are studies that support both sides.
