Not that I want it, but... could we play Boise State in a bowl game if they lose 1 and we win out?

Possible but highly unlikely. Also would suck for both of our programs, frankly, for multiple reasons.

In theory, yes. But bowls usually try to avoid same season rematches, and I'd guess if they were going to have a rematch they'd want one that was more competitive the first time around.

A little different topic...I wonder if bowls (the ones that continue to exist) will start making their invitations contingent on schools bringing their whole team, giving themselves a contractual out if a bunch of players opt out of playing. And, for the same reason, I wonder if any of them will start going straight to the player, and essentially paying appearance fees if the player suits up for the game.

That's probably in our future too...player bonuses for those who actually show up for the bowl.

Hopefully, the collectives and the people behind the NIL payments do the same thing, and make the player sign that they'll play the full season...including the bowl...in order to get paid.

Exactly because, after all, they are professionals now.

To me, this is why I have become more of an NFL fan than college football fan. At least the NFL doesn't pretend to be something that it is not. Taihtsat

I mean how is that enforced? A player can say they are hurt even if they aren’t. What are you going to do shove them out on the field?

Well you're going to have to get team doctors involved. No prior injury? No complaints that can be tied to team activities? Especially weeks after the official last game of the season?

Plus, there would be monetary incentives to play previously agreed upon. It would take an order of magnitude offer from another school to usurp the incentive from the CURRENT school, I would think. Taihtsat

I'd love to play Boise State in a bowl game rematch, mainly because their stud running back would sit out to prepare for the NFL.
