Mike Leach was on the US Bank Cougar Coaches Show with Bud Nameck tonight. Here's a few of the things he talked about...

-Leach says Senator Baumgartner was at practice tonight and that he's a regular visitor. When asked if the Senator ever recommends plays to run, Leach said he doesn't but that he's a bright guy that he'd listen to, but wouldn't necessarily run those plays.

-The conversation shifted to whether Leach ever runs into people on the street who recommend plays to run and he said yes, he does, though he also gets letters from people in prison recommending what plays to run. Leach said there's people that tell him that they get out of prison in six months or and that they were a running back or an offensive lineman, asking for a tryout. He says he also hears from people in the military saying similar things.

-Leach says that he feels they have a good game plan against USC. Notes that they'll have to be physical in the front seven and says that they'll have some guys back in the secondary that should help out on the play action.

"Welcome to the club," Leach said of USC's young offensive line. "It's kind of tough to out-young us at any position, so good for them. Now they know how I feel."

-Leach on the team feeling like they need to win-out to make a bowl game says that they'll just focus on USC and then focus on the next guy.

-Leach says that the bye week following the Oregon State game will be similar to the previous bye week but it will depend on what kind of shape they're in.

-Leach liked Frankenstein as a kid when it came to picking Halloween outfits. He says he used to do a lot of research because it was much more difficult back in the day with limited materials. While he doesn't dress up any longer, he stressed that if he were to dress up, it would have to be something quick and mobile. He says mobility is crucial because as a kid, he would double-back to the houses that gave out the big candy bars.

Then he talked about a frat party at Kansas State when the team was there while at Texas Tech, where a kid dressed up as Bill Snyder. He said the only thing missing was Snyder's white Nike Cortez sneakers with the purple swoosh. Leach said there's a myth that only Snyder has access to them because he always is wearing them but no one else can find them.

-Leach says USC's defense is a fairly basic group. They know they're talented and a lot of it is "we're big, strong and fast" so try to move it on us. He says he'll look at USC's film this year but also look at a lot of what they did at UW last season.

-Leach said, when scouts come to talk about his players, they ask about whether they play special teams, how hard they work, how they do in the film room and how quickly they come back from injuries. Leach on Halliday says, "I can't think of a better quarterback in the country than him."
