Official COUGS vs. SC thread...

Despite the blowout score the Cougar defense has held their own in the 2nd half.
Sure SC may have reduced the playbook a bit but their goal was to get to at least 50 pts and so they still have Slovis in at QB.
Nice 2nd half dfense.

Seriously, let’s focus on the most interesting conversation tonight:

which blonde sideline reporter was at Shakers?

They haven't quit and didn't have the basset hound look out there. Something to build on.

Cougs are moving the ball but everything looks like it's slow motion.
Nice run by Markoff and good to see him gets some snaps.

Maybe start Cruz next week and give him some more reps?

Maybe that one hopper was nerves. I mean if DeLaura isn't going to use his legs then I don't see the point.

You don’t see the point in playing the true freshman QB who is one of the best prospects in the league?

WSU 12 minutes on that scoring drive!! Good job. Those comparing this to Wulff have been drinking even more than me

They need to fix his mechanics, they are terrible. Too much wasted motion, too slow of a delivery. Seeing Cruz and Cooper out there only highlights how bad de Laura’s mechanics are. His throwing motion is jacked.

Well, I don't think his arm and his accuracy are there if you take away his running ability.

Let me rephrase that one. I would like to see the other kids get some meaningful reps. Seems like Gunnar throws a nice ball once he got settled.

Nice showing in the 2nd half. Team didn't quit.
Originally this looked like a 58-10 type score.
38 - 13 is still one sided but Rolo had a chance to learn more about his players.

Looking forward to see how the Cougs respond next week at home.

Well, they didn’t quit. So that right there is we’re not in the Wulff era. I’m waiting to judge when we actually can practice. Maybe we need more than 20 practices to try and install an offense. I think Dickert will make it happen, but that’s me. You all can start your fire Rolovich blog if you want.

Lets face it...this is a losing season if Leach had stayed which would be 2 straight losing seasons. Minshews don't come along very often. None of these qb's would lead us to a winning season w no experience.

I expected to get boat raced and the Cougs did. Team didn't quit and plays hard. Long term I'm still only seeing Mike Price type of seasons (up and down) with a lower ceiling.

That's my $0.02, and would love to be shown to eat crow.

I agree with you on Dickert. The stats may not show it but I see a lot of good things. Slovis is gonna be a pro and they have 2 NFL receivers. Tough matchups. But there’s some talent to work with and I think the D is gonna be an above average unit. And as many mentioned they kept battling even when they were getting embarrassed.

1. Don't understand why Rolo calls JDL to throw at 3 and 1 and 3 and 2 when we can run effectively with McIntosh?
2. The onside kick early on, was just a bad idea.

At least we held SC to 38, that's the only bright side, besides seeing Cruz and Cooper.

The "one of the best prospects in the league" stuff is hype to draw viewers. Jayden does some things well. He typically makes good decisions and can run around and play some sandlot ball after the play breaks down. He's also throws a pretty catchable ball to his inside receivers.

This doesn't change his obvious limitations. Defenses can see this on film can make it harder for him to succeed at what he does well. His deep ball needs a ton of work. I know Calvin has been ripped for the drop earlier today but he had a step on his defender and Jayden wasn't able to throw the go route deep enough. The ball ended up at his shoe laces. It's a tough catch at full speed. Slow down and the defender turns and breaks it up. After a year or two in the weight room that is probably a touchdown. His long throwing motion makes a toss to the sidelines sketchy. Too much time for a defender to react. Seeing both Cruz and Cooper throw a bit further down field to Bacon and Calvin made me want to see more of them in the next two weeks.

I agree.

We've been good at running the ball so far this yr. Maybe even very good.

He has a ton of holes in his game. He has some flashes of potential too. Right now, I think WSU has 4 good receivers that are being pissed away by not having a QB that can play the position effectively. Maybe next season things will take a step forward. Maybe not.

Rolo and staff have a ton of work to do to prep for next season.
