Oh well

I'm not sure that the NCAA tourney will go on--at least not in front of actual people. I have tickets
to the Spokane regional next week.

if it dies go on I expect a lot of available seats coming from the out of area schools because Spokane is practically in Seattle (isn’t it?).

That's too bad for us but understandable. We are headed toward more significant shutdowns over the next 2-4 weeks.

Yes i would not be too excited to see a game in a packed gym. The San Francisco Warriors have decided to play their next home game without a live audience. It is time to let the medical doctors make sound decisions instead of old fat politicians.

The NBA just suspended all games Utah 's Rudy Gobert tested positive for the Corona Virus. I guess the idiots here who were questioning the Virus will now mute their responses.

I’ll be less inclined to watch a game with 0 people in the stands.
A few years ago there was a soccer game somewhere in Europe that played without fans. I was working from home and watched parts of it. It was terrible. The players were professional about it but as you would expect there was zero energy in the place and it was simply a strange watch.

And I would imagine the people who questioned the hiring of coach Smith will be changing their tune after what can only be described as an amazing season. The team bought into the program and fought through countless injuries to have a great season... and it’s not over yet!!

You are right. They just won their first PAC12 tournament game in a long time and will play ASU in the second round. Good tonight guys!! Smith has us going in the right direction after years of horrible basketball under Kent.

What's hypocritical to me is anyone who downplays the results of this season for WSU men's basketball by citing a soft schedule and a down year for the Pac-12 when those same factors were in play for multiple years under the previous regime. Personally, I think this is one of the conference's strongest seasons in years...a lot of parity....and the Cougars beat 3 of the best in Oregon, UCLA, and Arizona State. Anyone who wants to minimize those results and stubbornly avoid men's basketball because their guy rightfully got canned after 5 unproductive years isn't really a Cougar fan.

Great job pounding Colorado...and getting our first tournament victory since the Tony Bennett days.

What attempts for distraction. The hypocrisy in these posts is absolutely off the charts.Somehow the game of basketball seems insignificant at this time.. The idiots still do not grasp that . The WSU campus is now on online status. There are students being tested for the virus. The earlier posts about it being a "Seattle" thing seem seem stupid at this time. I guess they can drink alcohol as a cure? I worry more about the community's health than i do if the cougs still have one more game to play The priorities of people seem to be misplaced in my opinion.I hope that everyone here is still here in a couple of months.

The only problem with what you were saying, is not what you are, were saying about the Corona Virus, and some of what you said in this post.

What you said about the Corona Virus is right.

I and others have also said similar.

And your right that tbere are more important things then baskeball, like the Corona Virus.

No problem with that.

The problem is that you said: PARAPHRASING: That people are stupid if they first say the Corona Virus was nothing, then either stubbornly refuse to admit they were wrong, an or change their tune.

While thats right to a point. It INSULTS people by calling them stupid. You could have made that point without calling people stupid, or implying they are stupid.

The other problem with that, is that like Glad Cougar said, it is coming from someone like you who hypocritically was being overly critical, insulting of Smith, because your guy Kent was fired, and then stubbornly refuse to admit you were wrong.

So in essence your just like the people who say the Corona Virus is nothing, and now wont admit they are wrong.

And then when this is rightly pointed out to you, you try to deflect by saying that Basketball isnt important compared to Corona Virus.

And your right, that Basketball isnt as important, or not important compared to Corona Virus.

But be that as it is, you were, are being hypocritical, even tho you are technically right about what you said about Corona Virus.

And something else your missing is that even tho basketball isnt that important. It is entertainment.

Entertainment in moderate amounts, is good,ok

But it is even more good,ok to help people deal with things like Corona Virus. And when I say deal with things like Corona Virus, I dint mean that it will cure it. I mean that it, basketball, entertainment can help deal with possible stress from the Corona Virus situation.

So you can:

1. Admit you were wrong about Smith.

2. Stop calling people stupid.

3. Stop being hypocritical.

4. Stop being judgemental

5. Stop deflecting

6. Enjoy Basketball

Etc.

Our only shot at post-season play is to win the Pac 12 tournament. #motivation #rememberTheCBI

A Cougar basketball fan can still dream, can't he? At least until 10:30 or so tonight . . .

Actually the NIT is in play now.

With 16 wins, WSU is a NIT bubble team. That about 39 to 43% chance to get a NIT invite.

If WSU beats ASU, WSU would be 17-16, have 17 wins, 2 Pac 12 Tourney wins against NCAA tourney, NIT teams, Wins against Oregon, UCLA, Colorado, ASU.

Quite the Resume.

As such WSU would probably have about a 59 to 80% chance to get a NIT invite.

If WSU beats the winner of UCLA vs CAL, and then loses to Oregon, WSU would have about a 85 to 93 to 100% chance to get a NIT invite.

I say invite because like the CBI, the NIT, NCAA tournaments might get canceled.

If that happens, any teams that gets INVITED to said tournament ARE TOURNAMENT TEAMS, GETS TECHNICAL ASTERIX CREDIT FOR HAVING PLAYED IN TOURNAMENT AS IF IT HAD PLAYED IN TOURNAMENT BECAUSE ITS NOT THEIR FAULT THAT THE TOURNAMENT WAS CANCELED. THEY EARNED A INVITE. THEY ARE A TOURNEY TEAM.

El C - we are all worried about the Coronavirus and the impacts it will have on our families and communities. I live in the Yakima area and two peoples were diagnosed with the virus yesterday so it’s here. I am also very worried about my parents who have underling health issues. My father has no immune system and he is dead if he catches this disease. Be that as it may, we still have to live our lives, do our jobs, and go forward while taking common sense precautions to try to avoid the disease whike not hiding in the darkest recesses of our house in a panic. There is nothing wrong with having some distractions like the Cougs winning one or two games in a tournament to take our minds off what is going on. It’s your attitude and calling people idiots that is out of line.

Elsie is bitter about the Cougs winning last night. He went all in against Smith/Chun and is getting exposed regularly.

Bush league idiots. The Big !0 and Big 12 have cancelled their Tournaments. The PAC 12 is still clamoring for attention much like the posters on this board. Get your priorities in order folks Name calling is but a refuge of the uneducated and dim of wit, Oh i did not bother to read the entire posts as i could call the priorities on this board

More common sense. The NHL has suspended its season due to the Corona Virus pandemic. Someone has to protect you guys from yourselves.

“Name calling is but a refuge of the uneducated and dim of wit” not sure if your being sarcastic or slamming yourself or self diagnosing but you started your post with name calling and have pretty much been this boards “King” of name calling!
PS this is a cougar basketball board what did you expect people to be talking about?

Pac-12 has also cancelled its tournament. Maybe your characterization of the conference ("clamoring for attention") was a bit premature.

I like the statement "Name calling is but a refuge of the uneducated and dim of wit", knowing that you were the one who called a past coach "Bonehead" and the current coach "Dufus."

Good I am glad that someone is using common sense. Major League Soccer has suspended league play for 30 days .

MLB will be cancelling the rest of spring training and likely the start of the regular season, details to be announced later today. Sports will be on hold for quite awhile. I have no problem with that.

Yep I am ok with it too.

Too bad for WSU's basketball team.

The team DESERVES a CBI/NIT, and are, is at least a CBI, tourney team(CBI INVITE).

And WSU would have gotten a NIT INVITE IF WSU would have beaten ASU.

And now they'll never get the chance.

And some will errantly say that WSU isnt, wasnt a tournament team.

Meanwhile, Oregon, Arizona will probably get credit for being tourney teams.

I know that the other Pac 12 schools like Arizona, Oregon, UCLA, Colorado, Stanford, Utah, etc, can claim they are effected as much as WSU.

But those colleges missing out on tournaments is no big deal, because they get to play in those tournaments year in and year out.

While WSU hardly ever makes it to, into a tournament.

So because of that, it hurts WSU more then the other Pac 12 colleges.

I know that might probably change under Smith.

Just too bad for WSU.

But it is what it is.

And I support cancelation, as it is the right thing to do.

And WSU is, was a CBI/POST SEASON TOURNEY TEAM, this year.

Not WSU's fault that everything canceled.

Too bad, but cancelation was, is right.

Commons sense taking priority over misplaced priorities. The NCAA has cancelled the post season Tournament for both men s and women s basketball .Disney Land in California is even shutting down. Finally we are getting a concerted effort to stop the spread of the Corona Virus.

The problem with the Corona Virus is NOT its Mortality rate PER SE.

A 3% Mortality rate is BOTH neither good, bad, moderate. It's not that much worse then the FLU.

The PROBLEM with the Corona Virus is its INFECTION RATE, which is about 3, THREE an or 4, FOUR TIMES the INFECTION RATE, spreads quicker then FLU.

That and that there is either no vaccine yet, an or that it will take at least 15 months for Vaccine to reach general public.

FLU hits about 32 million per year.

Corona Virus can hit 100 million per year.

20% out of 100 Million infected(that amount that get HOSPITALIZED(Whether they die or not), is 20 MILLION HOSPITALIZED each year. And AT LEAST 2.5 MILLION DEATHS PER YEAR.

Now that is, would be a WORST CASE SCENARIO.

That may or may not happen.

But that is a REAL RISK TO INFRASTRUCTURE(Hospitals, Beds, Doctors, Medicines, etc)

That is why Measures are needed to be taken to HELP RESTRICT the INFECTION of Corona Virus(Not going to stop Corona Virus infection(Its too late for that, and its too viral for that to happen).

But the measures taken, an or that need to be taken, need to be MEASURED, MODERATE, NON PANICKED.

The 2 TWO Extremes of Its just like the FLU, and "Its the end of the world", need to be avoided.

While I support some of these measures taken to help stop the Corona Virus spreading, I am concerned that a couple, few, some may or may not, might or might not, be taken too far, which could hurt almost as much as the Virus Spreading more.

Also I am worried that these measures could create a false perception that just because these preventing the Virus from spreading steps are taken, that the Virus's spreading will be stopped.

The spread of the Virus, might be lessened. BUT THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS WILL NOT BE STOPPED

The VIRUS WILL SPREAD THRU THE POPULATION NO MATTER WHAT IS DONE.

BUT THAT IS NO REASON TO PANIC.

Any response needs to be common sensical, MEASURED, MODERATE, NON EXTREME, NOT End of the World, but not its nothing either, but somewhere between those 2 extremes.

The mortality rate for the common flu is estimated at 0.1%, considerably less than Covid-19. A diagnosis of Wuhan Flu is not a death sentence nor is it insignificant.

What we- i.e. the world- need to do is limit the rate of infection for the eighteen months or so it will take for a vaccine to be developed. A cure is asking a bit much. We have no cure for the other versions of the flu so I will not be holding my breath for this one.

Mik is right in that the spread is inevitable. This is a remarkably sneaky virus in that infected individuals spread the disease before symptoms appear and after the infected individual is nonsymptomatic, cured. Healthy appearing individuals can distribute the virus thus the extended quarantine for patients. Eventually it will cover the globe. The only thing that we can do is hang in there and wait for a good vaccine.

Here are some things we can do:

1. Avoid large group gatherings of 250 people or more.

2. Wear Gloves, and either a surgical mask or facial, nose, mouth covering. A N95 special mask is only needed if get closer then a 6 foot bubble.

3. Maintain SOCIAL DISTANCING, and a 6, SIX FOOT BUBBLE AROUND YOU at any and all times WHEN in areas where risk is higher, such as large groups more then 250 people, etc. Don't let people, warn people not to break your bubble.

4. Dont shake hands.

6. Limit contact with commonly used surfaces, such as sinks, sink handles, door handles, tiolet handles, and when need to touch those surfaces, use either gloves, or a paper towel, napkin, etc.

7. If you do touch said surfaces, without proper techniques, precautions, have contact, interactions, had your bubble broken, etc, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR NOSE, MOUTH, WASH YOUR HANDS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

8. Wash hands often. And wash them the right way.

A. Take 30 seconds to wash hands using soap, warm to hot water.

B. Do not touch anything with your bare hands. It does no good to wash hands, if you then touch things like the sink handles, etc(to turn water off), with your bare hands. Other people with Corona Virus could have touched it, and by you touching it with your bare hand, and then touching your bare hand to nose or mouth, you can expose yourself to Corona Virus. Use a CLEAN paper towel, etc, to touch it, do not touch it with your bare hand. Thats how to wash your hands the right way.

9. If you can, get ENOUGH of what you NEED, for at LEAST 72 hours, 3 to 13 days. But do not panic, hoard, start a run, etc.

Yesterday, and now is the time to prepare, tomorrow might be too late. Some stores might TEMPORARILY close, and or some food, supplies, might or might not temporarily run out, etc.

Make sure you get any prescriptions refilled, and if can, stock up more then a refill if can, if allowed. Talk with both your doctor, pharmacist, have a plan in place to prepare for, deal with possible prescription drug shortages.

10. Cover your mouth if you cough, etc. If you get a high fever, with coughing, ask medical, if you need to be tested for Corona Virus, and Self Quarantine yourself.

11. Only use hospitals, Dr offices, clinics, urgent care, ER's etc, for absolute emergencies. These resources may, might need to be saved, reserved, used for those with Corona Virus.

12. Try to take good care of yourself. Now is not the time to get sick with something else, or get hurt, etc.

Example now is probably not time to go rock climbing, ski; etc, accidentally hurt yourself bad enough to where you would need to be hospitalized, where that can take resources away from Corona Patients, or where you might be denied resources, in order to take care of Corona Virus patients.

13. Dont panic

14. Dont go buy a missile silo home, etc.

15. Stay informed.

16. Follow these guidelines

17. Cooperate with authorities

18. DO NOT BREAK QUARANTINES.

There might be more, but thats all I can think of for now, and I might think, remember more later.

The main culprit likely won't change their tune in the near future. I can see him in the longer term say that he was lobbying for Smith to be hired from the start.

Truth is that this is the first year of what is hopefully a run. They will work a lot more on offense next year so things should improve. Adding some more recruits will be helpful. I look for a Graduate Transfer to fill some needs.

This Coaching staff is all over recruiting and its recruiting that makes a program go, that and teaching some fundamental defense.....

Observer you are a complete horses ass. Somehow to look at my post and somehow decipher that it was comparing Smith vs Kent is asinine and completely without logic. Either you are a student still finding your way or you do see the community health risk which everyone is contending with. When i wrote my post i was not even thinking of coaches. I never did try to put a saddle on you and ride in to make my post

Walk it back, walk it back, walk it back. Now playing the moralist. Well done, martyr. You'll find so much sympathy here.
