Ok, WTF is wrong with this country of ours? Within a week, black kid gets shot for knocking on the wrong door. White 20 year old girl gets killed because they drove up the wrong road. 4 kids (and counting) killed at a sweet 16 party. Now two cheerleaders get shot because one of them opened the door to the wrong car.

Just today, two women got into a fistfight at my local dog park because one dog was humping the other and the humpee owner kicked the humper.

We are so f-ed up as a nation.

Over in the Tacoma area there’s been a couple kids killed in the last few weeks. High school/college aged. Just shot down by other teens. Also, lots of the armed robberies are high school aged kids. Pretty wild.
 
I have no problem with extremely strict gun laws, but guns are never, ever going away in America. Given that, we need to identify punishments and deterrents for these types of crimes.

Clearly, we need both very strict gun laws AND significant punishments for gun violations and criminal activities that include guns? It's easy to want to blame Republicans for the lax gun laws, and I do, but liberals and their vote pandering criminal protective policies are equally problematic.

Violent crime HAS TO be dealt with by harsh, zero tolerance policy. Nothing else is going to solve the issue. It would be both crime and cost effective to build 10 new criminal detention centers in every state and lock people up and/or execute them, but that would tilt the racial imbalance too far against blacks and hispanics, so in the end, nothing gets done.

I think much of this feeling comes from events we wouldn't have heard of 20 years ago now being all over social media. Yeah, a teenager killing someone in BFE, Arkansas is tragic, but it would only have been in the Little Rock paper back in the day. Now it's all over media, depending on who was involved and the outrage potential. Social media has had too many detrimental effects to attempt to get into them all.

I have no idea what this post has to do with innocent unarmed kids being shot for no reason. Hell I own 5 guns, and keep my 9mm loaded in my bedroom. Doesn't mean I'm going to shoot some innocent kid who knocked on the wrong door, or some 20 year old who drove up the wrong driveway.

I was on board until your last sentence.

I don’t care what their color or ethnicity is. If you’re the criminal, you go to jail. Period. And the plain reality is that both the victims and the perpetrators of many of the day-to-day shootings…are not white. Same as the reality is that most of the mass shooters are white.

I have a sawed off 20 gauge shotgun. Cut off the barrel and stock myself (still legal though, barrel is over 16 inches). It's sweet, although at 20 gauge, probably only effective up to 15 feet. My ex got my 12 gauge.
 
Since we are on the topic of guns/gun control. Jay DumDum Dimslee is going to sign that new law into effect banning "Assault" weapons. This clown is hell bent on one-upping insane pwoh-gwesib (trying to imitate what liberal would sound like saying this word) leaders on the Left Coast. Lispy Jay is by far the worst governor this state has ever had and the lunatics that voted him in office are just as dumb and crazy as he is. Its nigh time for me to move out of this cesspool of a state to somewhere the liberal mind virus has been essentially eradicated. One other thing to note: WA State Supreme is supposed to be "non-partisan" but judging by the current 9 that are there, they look and have the most liberal/progressive background between all 9 of them. Its no wonder that Lispy Fvck is so confident he can push through any agenda he wants and does. 5 years ago this band of marxist judges actually ruled the death penalty unconstitutional and today, the retard running this state made it official.

I’ve heard before this is the best deterrent for an intruder (not a gun guy myself, no issues w them just never got into them). A. Intruder will shit their pants and run at the sound of a shell being loaded and B. If it goes to the next level a single shot at short/medium range and potentially in the dark is highly effective at incapacitating an intruder.

Adding to my post just a min ago, the argument for assault rifles in civilian hands has lots of layers. 2A is interpreted a number of diff ways. I don’t want to guess how you interpret it but seems like those generally in favor of no changes to gun laws (ie assault weapon ban) are worried about the genie coming out of the bottle and all of a sudden it will be open season on any and every gun. One question I’ve always had on this…what’s the line? I mean is it ok for someone to have a rocket launcher? Bazooka? There’s really no point in these weapons being in civilian hands other than being able to mow down people right? You aren’t gonna hunt with them. There’s better options for self defense. What’s the point other than the feeling of general infringement on 2A?

Well, CouginSpain, if you are really in Spain, please pray tell what the gun laws are over there. Apparently you are not, as you stated that it's time for you to move out of "this cesspool" you call my state. I'm no big Inslee fan, but Geezus Christ read the news. Kids being killed for knocking on the wrong door, driving up the wrong driveway, opening the door to the wrong car. Now a six year old and her dad shot in NC after their basketball rolled into the shooters yard. And the latest, 4 people shot and killed in Maine. All this week. What's your solution to all this?

As I've posted before, I own 5 guns, and keep my loaded 9mm by my bed. But this "assault rifle" BS has to end. NOBODY needs one of those. I'm no liberal, but freaks like you make me sick. Can't believe you are a Coug. Go move to F-ing Idaho or South Dakota.

So you're the kind of guy who shoots a cheerleader in the head for driving onto your property accidentally. Good to know. And Chugspig is right, only a moron uses a .556 for home defense. I have a Bushmaster M4 Patrolman Carbine that I bought 13 years ago and I love to shoot it. It's a great rifle and fun to shoot. I also know that there is no real world use for me when it comes to that rifle. I have a handgun in my bedroom that will poke 9 mm holes in any dumbass who comes into my house. The comment above about a shotgun is right in that's the best weapon, but since I feel 99.999999% sure that I will never need my handgun, I don't worry about anything more than that.

It's like car insurance buddy. Hope you never need it, but it's there. Thats why I pack my piece when I'm on any kind of a road trip. You hopefully never need it, but you have it. Just not sure how I can smuggle it through Mexico and Central America when I move to Costa Rica to shack up with Spongy.

First of all, you don’t read so well and second, my problem isn’t so much with restricting the ability to obtain a rifle like an AR15 but more so with government abusing its power. I don’t trust liberals to not use whatever power necessary to impose their will at any given time. Who is to say they don’t pass some sort of an amendment to include handguns/pistols by redefining the term “Assault weapon”? You don’t think this vague term was used specifically to be able to do that in the future? The rate at which our country is turning into a bunch of progressive pansies is frightening. Liberals don’t care about mental stability and in fact, it’s encouraged to be cray-cray by the left. How do we know this? Well look at what’s happening with the indoctrination of our youth today and why has the state of WA been reducing the amount of funding and programs dedicated to serving the mentally ill?

If you read the definition of “assault weapon” in this bill, it’s extremely broad. Basically any center fire semi-auto with length under 30 inches, which can hold more than 10 rounds in an integral or detachable magazine (8 shells for a shotgun). A pistol is also an assault weapon if its magazine is anywhere but the pistol grip, if it has a threaded barrel, or a few other features.
I’d be on board with reasonable restrictions - as would most of the US population - but this goes way too far.
I’m fairly confident it will be found unconstitutional, but that won’t happen in the state courts.

Yeah I can't argue with some of this - my Ruger 9mm pistol holds 15 rounds. Great gun, I have 2 clips for it. Don't come around and F- with me. I'm just goddam sick and tired of these 30 round assault rifles being handed out like candy. Although I'm tempted to run out and buy one since they will soon be banned in Washington. Some other useless thing to throw in my closet.

Personally, I don't believe that anyone should ever have a gun on them "just in case". I'm over 50 years old and I've never "needed" a gun out in public. If anything, having a gun involved would have taken some minor confrontations and turned them into major problems.

About 20 years ago, I yelled at some asshole who was sitting in a fire lane in front of the grocery store. I told him that his fat ass wife wouldn't be a fuggin' whale if he made her walk to the parking lot. He gets out of the truck and confronts me and he's friggin' huge. I tell him that regardless of what he is thinking, the outcome of a fight would be, 1) him getting his kicked by a guy 100 lbs lighter than him or 2) his ass going to jail for assault. I told him to get his big ass back in the truck and find a parking spot. He told me to screw off and went back and sat in his truck. He didn't move it though. If I had a gun and pulled it on him when he got out, the whole farce would have went from stupid to incredibly stupid. I would have likely ended up in the back of a police car and might have gone to jail....or worse, the guy could have attacked me and it turns into a major problem.

When I was in high school, my neighbor came to our house with a rifle and threatened me and a friend because he thought we had been trespassing on his property. My dad pushed the guy's rifle toward the ground and told him to leave and that if he ever came back on our property with that rifle, he would shove that rifle up the guy's ass and blow his fuggin' head off. Carrying guns around doesn't solve problems, they create new ones.

People are dumb and emotional....we need less guns out in the world....not more. All that said, I do own a half dozen firearms and I like them, but I just don't feel that I make my world a better place carrying them around. The most likely real world use for my M4 would be in a zombie apocalypse...and that tells how likely it is to be of any real use.

All I ask of you (or anyone who wants to carry) is that if you do decide to carry.....take the time to actually know the law rather than just being some hard dicked dude who thinks that carrying a gun is all the law that you need to know. Too much of that stupid shit going on right now. Kansas eliminated the need for conceal carry training and now has a constitutional carry law. That means that there are now hundreds, if not thousands, of dumbass cowboys carrying guns that have zero idea of what their legal responsibilities are and that's distressing.

In my lifetime, I expect to see some sort January 6th again. Some kind of conflict that escalates. No idea where. No idea who. No idea how many people involved. But it will happen with guns. The guns used? Most likely will be assault rifles.

Im not going to find myself in the middle of some horse shit without an appropriate way to defend myself.

That most likely means an assault rifle. That’s why you need one. The arms race has escalated past pistols and shotguns.
