Bo Ryan at Wisconsin says that he will retire at the end of next season. Will Tony Bennett want that job?

My bet is Tony Bennett takes that job. The ACC is very tough. He's far exceeded expectations. He could get a life time deal at Wisconsin. And many story lines if he makes the final 4.

My instincts say Virginia will do everything in its power to retain him. He has been a godsend for that program and fan base. The Wisconsin opening may fortuitously prove to be a powerful bargaining chip for Mr. Bennett, nothing more.

The word is Ryan wants to give the job to his assistant. Agreed, might not happen. But I could also very well see a scenario where Tony takes that job to carry on his dad's legacy....if that means anything to him.

I think you are right ttown. Tony might think that he has gone as far as he can with Virginia - ala WSU. He knows that Wiscy has been to the Final Four, and maybe he is the piece to get them that National Championship.

Tony's not an alum of UW and I wonder whether Wiscy has the same draw as it did for Dick Bennett. At UVA he has the academic prestige he sought, it's in 'the south', and more importantly it's away from the snow and cold of Wisconsin for his wife.

I agree with bogusto. If they come calling I see him using Wisconsin as a bargaining chip but ultimately he sticks with UVA.

Wiskey isn't in the South. Tony won't leave the south. But of course will be wllling to fan the rumours a bit to get more greenbacks.

I see the rumors have already caused UVA to sweeten Tony's deal a bit. They just redid his contract again - six years at $2.1 million per year. (He was at $1.9 M, with the contract signed last year). If he stays through 2019 he gets a $1 million bonus.

If he leaves before 2018 he has to pay a $3 million buy out.

Wow, UVA acted quickly, but is that enough to keep him? This one will be interesting to see how it plays out.
