Ferris/LC, Shadle/NC, CV/U High,Mead/ Mt Spokane, WV,/EV. Playing for Golden Thrones, Stinky Sneakers, Rubber Chickens....

These games draw great crowds (5-6000 ish?) in the Spokane Arena and the kids are loud. Much better energy than has been at a WSU game since the Bennett era. For all the things that are wrong with youth sports these games have it right. Are they unique to Spokane or are these games common state or nation wide?

Lots of places have them now but the original is the Rubber Chicken LC v Ferris which started in 1983

Two of my kids were hearty participants. Been to many over the years. The planning that goes into them is ridiculous.

Prep doesn’t participate because they are too cool for such foolishness. It really has very little to do with the games.

I’m aware that they are also in southern Idaho. Not sure about the west side of WA.

One year I was in one of the suites and sat behind Ron Sanchez. We spent most of the game chatting about DeAngelo Casto.

It’s always a good time. A true Spokanite should go support their local school every so often.

I’m an old U-High guy and follow the CV-University rivalry for the Stinky Sneaker (Basketball), Greasy Pig (Football) and the Battle of the Bone (Wrestling). The quality of competition and community support for wrestling is multiples of my experience decades ago. Incredibly entertaining. And the coaching at both schools is remarkable.

The old LC/Rogers, Rogers/Mead wrestling matches would pack them.

LC/Ferris has a similar event now called the King Of The Hill - packs out the gymnasiums.

LC/Ferris football has no name. I like to call it the future Boss/future employee Bowl.

The emphasis when I was at Shadle was charitable giving and community involvement. The school that did best won the Groovy Shoes, at least then. At the time it gave NC a chance since the results on the court were rarely kind to them

Corn Dog Bowl.
Give out footlong Dick's restaurant Corn Dog.

Let that $100k school district administrator do the presentation.

The spirit competition is a much bigger deal than the actual games, at least for CV-U-Hi. The CV marching band a budget that dwarfs everyone else in the GSL and they put it to use.

The GSL could soon be the Greater, Greater Spokane League:http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2019/jan/21/wiaa-proposals-for-classification-could-cause-dram/
