For those unaware, WSU has hired their new soccer coach, Todd Shulenberger. He was "associate head coach" at Texas Tech. Last year he helped forward TT to the 3rd round of the tourney. Before that, he was at Missouri where, if you didn't know, Mizzou is crazy good in soccer. Crazy good. Like Top 10 good. Before that, he was at Clemson. This is a great hire, from all I can see. This hire is more proof that Moos is here to hire head coaches for the long term, not allowing us to be looked at as a stepping stone while hiring quality not some weird Diamond in the Rough. Below is his Texas Tech page:

Also, he was on Cougar Calls with Moos (with Grinch). You can listen below:

I read about the hire a few days ago when it was announced. This does appear to be a good hire. Some people keep complaining about that Moos has put all his eggs only in the football basket. But, his staff has been working on renovations to the venues of several sports.

Hopefully the new coach can keep what I believe is rated a top 25 class. Hopefully we want him around for more than a year. We really need someone who will stick around for a few years because the many changes must be tough on the players.

Yes, indeed. Three coaches over four years is one hell of a turnover rate. The women's soccer team has been successful but a bit of stability would be appreciated. The last three coaches have done well and, hopefully, the new one can continue the trend.

Never did find out why the previous fellow left. Anyone know?

I believe it was, "personal" for Steve Nugent. So there's a wide brush. From all I'd seen, which was quite a bit (was at several games last year), he and his family were pretty happy in Pullman. He "hammed it up" quite a bit for the camera whenever the Pac 12 Network was around. His family (wife and I believe 2 boys) were at every game. COMPLETE conjecture, but I'd say when he says its personal, it most likely was… Upon googling him, there are no "hits". He hasn't moved on to another coaching position, or so it seems.

I think Thorpe tweeted that he would have left WSU for only two reasons: one if they fired him or two if he had to take care of his wife. So maybe his wife isn't doing too well and had to step aside for that...which I hope, if that's the case, she's doing alright.

In the 1 article I read from the WSU assistant (interim HC) she indicated it was "personal" and "these things happen" kind of thing.
