So this was before the Medical School was approved but you can see where it's in the plan. It's pretty extensive, it's pretty lengthy. But WOW, do they have plans for Spokane!

WSU Spokane Master Plan

Probably a better title for a campus master plan would be something like "Dream campus, if money was no object and students fell from the sky".

All of the campuses have one, but honestly I'm not sure why they bother with anything more than about 5 years down the road. Conditions change too much to project much farther than that with any accuracy, and this plan was becoming obsolete even before it was published.

All true. Plans are always fluid. I mean, look at the "Master Plan" that they have for WSU Pullman. When opportunities come up, you take them. That means your priority list may change. What you thought would go to this project, now goes to that project because a development came about that made the gears move that was impossible to anticipate.

And I'd say, every "Master Plan" is pretty outdated as soon as it's printed. I might say, 2 years max... But without the plans, admin doesn't have direction either.

Kinda hard to change a zebra's stripes. But still need a zebra in the circus.

I understand the comment regarding only the next 5 years being realistic, and if you were talking about private money, I'd agree 100%. But when you are talking funding in a government context, those plans have to be in place a minimum of 10 years out, and often longer, because if it is not in a long term planning budget for that long, it is hell to get it added in later.

Just the way it is.

Some business guru said something to the effect that a strategic planning process is critical for any business, but recognize that any plan will be out of date before it's even finished. I think the point is that the strategic planning process has value beyond the plan itself. I think these master plans are impressive and show that a lot of thought goes into how the campuses develop.
