OT: USA Today, "U.S. Open will be staged in the Pacific Northwest, at a remote.."

I've heard that the course is being slammed for not being hard enough by golfers participating and that the preparations are not going well. Anyone else heard this?

I had heard that it was hard. I also listened to a national golf sportswriter who said the complaints were the same shit, different year. He said there are golfers who always complain about the layout of the US Open and this is nothing unusual. Someone will write a story on the horrific course and the story takes on a life of its own.

Then, the Open will come off without a hitch.

Pro golf has a variety of pro's. Some are guys who live for the challenge and enjoy the concept of a course that doesn't fit the carefully groomed and stage managed model. In particular they don't live for the Southern courses that are groomed for 3 weeks in advance to make it as easy and predictable as possible for the pro's. The "we don't want to make them look bad" course arrangements. But there are also pro golfers who feel exactly the opposite. From the linked article, it sounds as though the Tacoma course might make the pro's work. And will reward advanced work. In short, a US Open that will decidedly not be for the lazy.

You know, that sounds pretty good to me.

Let's see how it all turns out.

I wonder if the preparation issues are real. I am not a good golfer, but I've played it a few times, and I can see where some might think it isn't that hard. Seems like the distances aren't all that long...but it's been awhile for me.

I did hear about the complaints from a good source. Hope they are wrong.

The preparation should be great.

The local word is they (PGA) are going to make it tough.

One of the local PGA directors is a Coug.

If Tacoma/UP are remote, than Alaska has to be in the abyss....tired of national writers referring to our area/region has some unclaimed settlement land.

Should fun show for those coming over to the Tacoma area.

He seems to be referring more to the course, than the region. Nonetheless it will always be that way. By the time a few waterlogged and sick settlers struggled ashore at Alki, 99% of the east had been going for 50, 100, in some cases, 200 years....even the small towns. That does sound like a fun course.....
