Yes, it seems they fall into the trap that former great USC football players make great ADs. Garrett, Haden, and Swann have each generally fumbled when it comes to hiring head coaches. Maybe Todd Marinovich can become their next great athletic director?

As I said in another string, very few great salesmen make great sales managers. The few that do are the right people to have, but 40 years of doing stuff suggests to me that the number that can successfully bridge that difference is probably less than 5%...and it is probably the same for football stars who become AD's.
