Sounds like Pollard was on the way out (probably even if Kent was retained). Smith won him over.

Ironic the teams retention of players greatly improved with a coaching change.

What a well written piece by Pollard. Despite doom and gloom predictions of a mass exodus, it appears most players...if not all...want to stick around and play for Smith. They probably are hungry for some good instruction and development of their game. And Pollard's assessment of Smith is encouraging. No doubt, if he felt the new coach was nothing more than mediocre, he could've and would've gone elsewhere.

This is outstanding news.

I got $5 that says attendance doubles next year, regardless of our record.

Pleasantly surprised by Chuns decision to fire Kent. Clickbait was pushing hard for Decurie or Rice and neither seemed worth the effort. Smith on the other hand has produced more optimism for the program in the last couple weeks than Bone or Kent produced in the past decade.

The team went from a situation where half of the returners were expected to transfer to a situation where they lose Skaggs and maybe Nigel Johns. Considering how much El C ragged on Skaggs all year, I'm guessing he has nothing to complain about.

Smith also really seemed to want the job despite many saying nobody would want it. It's good to have coaches that want to be in Pullman.

John followed Phelps on twitter. Another sign he is still considering staying.

With how quickly they hired and who I didn't think many would leave. Looks like it's headed that direction. Will be interesting to see who they are able to add in the spring.

Now Wade and Ali are going so Chun continues to take it in the shorts. Probably more to come as they become more familiar with Smith.

Pollard is the sort of tough inside guy who can pass that Coach Smith likes to have. A nice return.

I think Ali may have been on the way out even if Kent stayed. His body language down the stretch showed me a lot of frustration.

Good point and I think the same is true with Wade. He got into the dog house with the team it seemed and never returned to his pre-season form. Skaggs just couldn't defend any position.

More room for Smith to bring in guys that want to be here and fit his needs, plus an opportunity to upgrade. I wish them both luck wherever they end up.

I too am looking forward to see who Smith brings in. As long as Elleby sticks around, guys like Cannon, Kunc, Pollard, Moore, Robinson, and Murphy are a solid group to build upon. Murphy fills the need for a shooter, but we need a couple more bigs. A grad transfer and a freshman big for the future like a Johns would seem logical.

El C... would you have been ok with smith if he was the guy coming in after Bone?
