Post game feelings

First, if Rolovich feels that JDL is our QB of the future......fine.

However, I see a kid right now who needs to improve an awful lot before I consider him the anointed one. As I said in an earlier post, who you play should be based on what you want out of the kid. I was really disappointed to see JDL throw incompletions when there was running room available last night. I don't know why he did that, but based on what I've seen from his arm so far, if he ain't running a bunch, he isn't worth it as a starter. I love a lot that I see about JDL, but he is not so perfect that he is irreplaceable.

As far as I'm concerned, we need to see more of all three guys in the next couple games. Most of the Pac-12 bowl games have been cancelled so we aren't really playing for anything but next year at this point. JDL may be the future, but I don't see the point in getting emotionally invested in any player....including the starter who is 1-2 and hasn't proven anything yet other than that he is elusive in the pocket.

Cooper still has 3 years of eligibility after this, and Cruz 4. With Cooper, especially, I am loathe to give up on him. We don't usually get athletes like that. My base case is he transfers to Utah State and absolutely lights up the MW for three years ... especially if Graham Harrell gets that job, as is rumored.

If those kids arent gonna be the guy, time to move on and get guys that are. It’s a tough biz. You cant have kids taking up scholarships that don’t fit what the future is. Find guys that fit what you wanna do OR bring a skill set you dont have currently.

They were out coached, out played and overall out done yesterday.

True coaches find a way. I think Dickert isnt the guy.
Maybe you are right and Dickert isn't the guy. Hell, maybe Rolo isn't the guy either. But they need to be afforded a chance and that won't come this year. Covid has trashed this season. Doesn't even equal some mediocre preseason scrimmages. It will be listed in the record books as one big asterisk. Like it or not, we have to be patient and form our conclusions after we see how some normal schedules play out.

No. To say that there is 0 information to be collected from this season I do not agree with. There is constant evaluation on players and staff. Are there issues??? Of course. This is a chance for Rolo to see where he needs to improve. If makes no moves, he failed. He has to come away from this season with an idea of who he has within his organization.

He learned a tough lesson last night on the kinds of kids he needs if he wants to win a title. He was up close to the kind of athlete and size of athlete it takes to win. He doesnt have enough of them right now.
