Felt pretty high and mighty about us trying to rebuild a strong G5 conference for a second. To be honest I wish we would have found a way to fully merge. We are tearing apart the MWC to be just another MWC team.

Dickert lacks the instincts to bring on the right guys and take their duties away when they are underperforming. Have a feeling he’s too emotionally involved with his coaches to fully serve the team. Also, going with Air Raid tactics as a method of being distinguishable hasn’t really helped us. It’s an understood art form now. We skated by off hold over talent. We are now degrading into early leach late Wulff levels.

I didn’t even watch the last 2.5 games. That’s how predictably bad we are. It sucks. Hope you guys all hang in there.

Wish Anne McCoy had some fire to force changes.

Sun Bowl. Those are my post season thoughts. We’ll see in a few days what’s left of the roster.

We’re tearing the MWC apart to avoid having some teams like Hawaii, Nevada and New Mexico as conference members. If the idea is for the pac-12 champion to almost automatically get a playoff berth, leaving those teams behind is a necessary step.

That’s an awful outcome outside of the money. I would be surprised if more than 800-1000 fans went. I spent last night trying to decide if I’d rather be a team like OSU or UNM or us, honestly. Outside early season- no tape games…Our trajectory is not in a good spot. We’ll get destroyed by any ACC team that shows up there.

You're kidding yourself if you think that the P12 champion is almost automatically going to get a playoff birth. The playoff will fully become a P4 only and mostly a P2 affair. WSU and OSU became irrelevant the moment they tried to keep the "Conference of Champions" alive with G5 schools.

Under the current rules that’s how it will work.

And you think the rules will stay the same? It's not like the B1G or SEC have ever followed through on any promises that don't benefit themselves...

And even if the rules stay the same for a few years, WSU will not be the major player in that space.

You seem to be advocating that WSU just quit. Is that correct? Do you have a better idea on what to do? I will remind you that BSU, FSU, CSU, USU and SDSU would rather not be in the same conference with the remainder of the MWC.

And edit to add- it’s far from unreasonable to think that WSU could not qualify. Out OOC games will be early in the season when what little sorry we have will be intact. The reconstituted PAC-12 won’t be that daunting. We just finished 8-4 with a first time starter at QB, and a wretched defense. It won’t be easy, but it’s a path that’s probably easier for us than the old PAC-12 and the four team playoff format. 11-1 should do it. A slim chance at 10-2 with big OOC wins.

Please clarify. How will what work? The Pac will get an automatic berth? Or we became irrelevant?

And BSU seems to be doing just fine in this league of bottom feeders. With a win next weekend, a 1st round bye in the CFP? Two of whom recently beat WSU. Better than OSU I guess, who went 0-4 against those same bottom feeders.

I've advocated previously that WSU should go all in on academics now. If you're not going to offer P4 athletics, the university might as well work to be the best academic institution it can be. If you think the fan apathy is bad now, just watch as the years roll on. It's reality.

The problem is WSU also lost partnerships with some of the best universities on the west coast in realignment. It's a university with a major identity crisis.

The university can't even get their biggest revenue driver (football) right.

At least the post-Wulff years still offered a power 5 opportunity. Now? It's a G5 conference, with minimal upside and opportunity, and a terrible fan experience.

The highest ranked group of five champion gets a berth. The MWC has been more consistent than the AAC.

Look at BSU’s schedule. It’s not that daunting. WSU is their biggest W. That path is easier than going undefeated in the old PAC-12 to make the playoff.

So you want to quit. Ok. I won’t say that’s unreasonable in light of the pac-12 collapsing. But, I’ll point out to you that you’re here posting on a football forum.

True about the terrible fan experience. WSU gets a letter grade of an F for what they put out for fans. The Field House used to be fun before all the weird changes. Ie: showing game tickets to enter, no mixed drinks really lame), not enough tables to sit down at (they took a bunch out last year, terrible food choices (minus the pulled pork and brisket folks, it’s really good). Closing the concessions stands outside of section 24 in the stadium, forcing us into longer lines to wait for food & drinks missing the game, as they also don’t have the game on the tv at concessions like they use to. I’ve been a season ticket holder and CAF donor for over 20 years and it’s very disappointing how WSU thinks they can do less and less for the overall fan experience. I have to add that my wife brought up the fact about not renewing next year. I was like what? But as I thought about the time, energy and cost to go to Pullman for home games… I was like, yeah, I see what you mean. Plus with our new schedule of MWC schools it’s hard to get excited about going to games. Wow, I gotta stop here…..

Are you just figuring out that WSU is now G5? I've known that for a year+ now.

Your academic aspirations are nice. But WSU is not going anywhere (not up anyway) in our academic profile. We tried that (AAU invitation) under Floyd, and it went nowhere. We are basically Colorado State. R1, Land-grant, solidly "OK" as an academic institution. Nothing wrong with that, and it could be worse.

On the fan experience, as I haven't been to a game in quite awhile I can only comment on your all's anecdotal reports. And they aren't good. I assume the RV lot is as drunk and crazy as usual anyway. But the fieldhouse? Very sad. Does the practice field still have the corporate tents?

WSU ain't going anywhere now that they've lost their association with the biggest and best universities on the West Coast. Unfortunately the current university president just didn't continue to care about that after Floyd and watched it all slip between his fingers.

I haven't been to a game since 2018, so have relied on the antidotes of others but seems like nothing has improved.

We were irrelevant a long time before that.
I don’t really agree. We had 11 wins back in 2018…not that long ago, and we were ranked in the top 20 last year and this year. Not to mention we beat a semi blue blood non-conf opponent two straight years in Wisconsin. We’ve been plenty relevant of late, sorta like the end of the Price era we haven’t done shit to take advantage of it. I expect that five years down the road this 3 game puke fest which cost us the chance for a CFP birth will loom large when we are irrelevant.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t think we are a “playoff” team and would have gotten murdered by an actual playoff team, but getting into that tournament and the bag of $$ along with the resulting publicity for WSU may have saved the program. Oh well 🤷

Boise has not been in any national conversation since Chris Peterson left.

Without Genty, Boise would continue to be a quiet Mountain West team. A good team, but quiet.

Since there's no P4, or NFL team in Idaho...they are huge within their bubble, but that's about it.

So....to your point. Boise is fine for a year or two. Then, nobody will hear from them, and they disappear from national conversations.

Granted, I'm sure they'll have a good recruiting year, and will probably pickup a few studs, here and there.
But, once Genty is gone....they're gone.

Although, Spencer Danielson no doubt, is a great coach.

Nah Boise is like Gonzaga of FB. They rely on continuity with their staff succession along with taking advantage of a soft schedule. They will continue to be a top 25 team.

You may not have noticed, but when the Pac-12 was pillaged...we were not selected by another Power Four league. That's the very definition of irrelevance. Leach had brought us back to relevance in 2018 but for whatever reason, that all fell apart in 2019. If we were relevant, we wouldn't be forced into getting into bed with the MWC.

I see your point. Also think being ranked in the top 20 two years in a row and having better viewership than most of the B12 is relevance. Boise State has been in bed with the MWC for years and have managed to be relevant. Suppose we can agree to disagree.

I do think, as I said, this collapse is going to quickly move us to irrelevance, so we’re saying the same thing just different timelines.

Why are you even posting here if you haven't been to WSU game in 6 years?

I thought this was for Coug fans

I haven't been to a game in 6 years either. Doesn't make me any less of a Coug. I had season tickets for 20 years and only missed one home game during that stretch. I did my part.

Disagree.

If you're living over in Japan, that's one thing.

If you're living here in the US and you don't go to a single game in 6 years?

Everyone makes choices.

Fly down to Ol' Miss this next season

Well I have a diploma that says that I'm a Coug so there. And last year I was going to go to the CSU game, and then maybe a home game or two, but that plan (as we know) didn't work out too well. :)

So disagree all you want.

I’ll be there!

I’ll give loyal pass, when you are at risk of losing your wallet to two truck stop hookers on any road trip over two hours, you’ve gotta pick your trips carefully. If it’s not a top 25 matchup or there’s not a conference title on the line I want loyal enjoying the game from Yakima with a sixer in hand. Cougs gotta look out for Cougs.

All right - once and for all I unknowingly lost my wallet when I tripped over my dog in a park in Dillon, MT. Nice little town BTW, maybe I will move there.
