Quick observation

Since Robert Barber has been in the conversation lately, I find it interesting the overlap in the "shut up and take your shot" camp and the "Robert Barber didn't deserve due process" camp.
I still don’t understand your worship of the dude. He was a fuggin’ thug and he obviously didn’t have any special ability. I hope he is doing well but I don’t miss the mess that was that summer.

EDIT: One could argue that some people believe in social responsibility and ethics while others are just worried about what benefits them the most.

No, what you don't understand is my obsession with due process. The student council was a joke and kangaroo court, and it should have never existed. Idgaf about Barber per se, but I'm guessing that your skin color is a couple of shades lighter than his and mine, so I don't expect you to fully understand getting railroaded because of how you look and people coming up with excuses to ignore a lack of due process

i understand the concerns about due process and I’m glad that Barber’s situation forced a review.

However, anyone who is dumb enough and thug enough, to get caught on camera breaking someone’s jaw deserves to suffer severe consequences, regardless of skin color. Half of our team was out of control that summer being every bad stereotype that a-hole football players are known for. Way too much stupid sh!t that summer and Barber was just one of the more prominent examples.

FWIW, it’s obvious that the dude with the broken jaw earned his ass beating since Barber was found not guilty. That said, getting a scholarship means that you need to be a better person than Barber was that night. You don’t go around campus kicking the sh!t out of dudes just because you can.

Being a dumbass doesn't preclude one from losing their right to due process.

You also realize that the term 'thug' is generally no longer utilized or deemed acceptable with regards to persons of color, right?

That right there is the beauty of the internet. I'm "woke" because I think people should get vaccinated but then I'm getting lectured that I'm not woke enough.

I really don't care if someone thinks that I shouldn't use the word "thug" because Barber is a person of color. When I'm using the term, I'm not thinking in terms of skin color. If you do.....that makes you the racist....not me.

The student conduct board was a mess and deserved to be trashed. That doesn't mean that every decision by the board was wrong. FWIW, despite the implication above that Barber was railroaded because he was a person of color, the review done by a third party found that the SCB had not shown any indications of racial bias. They did find that the SCB had shown bias against football players in general as well as bias against members of the Greek Community and that reforms were needed to provide due process.

I still don't feel sorry for Robert Barber though. He didn't need to prove his manhood by beating the crap out of someone have his size but he did that. My viewpoint on that has nothing to do with skin color or the SCB. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who was dumb enough to get caught up in the stupidity that defined that summer deserved to be punished harshly.

Try to help a brother out. Sheesh.

So we can put you down as against due process and for inappropriate language?

There is a 3rd option. It doesn't have to be Machiavellian common good or self-centered indifferentism. It can be both. Protect individual rights while also advancing the common good.

This is why the interwebs are fun. So much either/or. And extreme either/or scenarios as well!

I think the use of sarcasm was laid on pretty thick in regards to the previous post but I get it. A lot of people are pissed off as was I. It took me about 48 hours to realize that there are guys who put on the uniform to represent a school we all love, that need our support now more than ever. Chun and Schulz are temporary ambassadors of our school with whom we can hate on because they don't share our passion for the university as we do. I still say f**k them and will continue to say it until they finally depart our beloved school.

I am of the take one for your team camp. I also see a smidge difference in the Barber case that it was caught on tape and the guy is 300 pounds. I also find it interesting guys like Kaufusi and Laurenzi were booted off the team and they weren’t given “due process”.
