Why not adapt neutral site games In a city like Las Vegas for the Oregon, Wa and Cali schools that will likely be shut down. Double and triple headers depending on the weekend when teams from the states shut down are playing each other. Apple Cup in Vegas anyone? The Raiders Stadium is big enough to fit 20k with some social distancing. Any home games against schools from states that aren’t shut down are played at the “away” teams site and the favor is returned the next year. Cougs could play Idaho at the Kibbie Dome and possibly move the Houston game there as well (and other home games?). Of course if teams aren’t allowed to practice this becomes a little difficult....

The only reason would be to get the teams out of states that are locked down. I kinda think the governor would not be keen on a state university giving him a huge middle finger.

Unless the teams move their for the season, I don’t see how it does any good. The logistic aren’t much different. Empty stadiums seems like a low risk, easily achievable solution.

Never happen. This idea significantly increases travel expenses for programs that are simultaneously experiencing revenue/budget hits. And there’s zero chance that a state school is going to be allowed to circumvent state rules by running across the border.

What I can see happening (and I mentioned before) is student-only access to the stadiums, with a limited number allowed and spread around the stadium to maintain distancing.

There’s too much money involved to cancel the season. If there’s enough testing capacity to test the teams every week (not sure Whitman could do this right now) and get results in less than 48 hours - preferably less - they’ll play.

It makes a lot of sense for pro teams to relocate but not for college teams.

You’re probably right on state schools but I could see Stanford and USC looking for a home away from home.

if the Cougs end up playing in “empty stadiums” hopefully they can at least let the bands play.

Whitman County now at Phase 2 as of Friday.

Doubt that the "science" will ever allow Whitman County to get two phases ahead of King County

Whitman county’s case count fits on your digits. No cases currently hospitalized. PPE supply sufficient for 90 days. Unless they see a spike, they’ll be to Phase 3 in 3 weeks. The whole idea is for areas to open up based on local virus conditions. King/Pierce/Snohomish are likely to be last just based on population density.

Amazing that Pullman avoided a significant breakout given the wide ranging student population. My son just graduated and he stayed with us post-Spring Break but he’s back in Pullman until the end of May. In fact, he sent me a photo of the tornado yesterday from his perch on the tee box at Palouse Ridge.

For the good of the order, the DOH recently started reporting hospital and ICU bed utilization. Click on the Hospital and ICU Bed Occupancy tab in the link below. It does not appear to be uniform (the number of reporting hospitals has big swings on a daily basis). But it seems pretty clear there would have to be a huge spike for the hospitals to be anything close to overwhelmed. There are about 1100 hospital beds in Spokane alone.

How about just taking the season off and have the "Student" Athletes concentrate on the "Student" aspect for a change.

No way!

I do think the schedule should be revisited. Why can't spring ball happen in mid-May to June? Guys can and should work out in spring semester, but give them the chance to concentrate on school for the whole semester. Then do your spring ball stuff after school is out. Then work out like demons until fall camp. Schools on the quarter system can suck it.

That’s exactly how Pullman avoided an outbreak. If they’d brought students back after spring break, guaranteed there would have been more.
