Ray Brown CB coach

Looks like a good hire, and people need to quit freaking out about recruiting Texas. There are a lot of good football players in Texas, and right now that's where the strength of the staff's recruiting experience is. In sum respects the Pullman environment resembles Texas more than CA. So in the short term you have to go with your strengths. Sure it would be nice to get a few more players from CA, but hiring the coaches to fit your staff and scheme is more important. I am sure the CA connections will get developed over time, you just can't do it in 2 months. Of the 14 commits me have right now.

Here is how it breaks out:
WA- 4
TX- 4
CA- 3
UT, OK, FL all with 1

Of the 4 transfer portal players that committed, they played HS ball in these states
CA -2
TX-1
NV-1

So in all 7 states are represented, with TX at 5, and CA at 4

Generally speaking most successful Cougar teams had a strong CA presence, so I assume these coach will get there. However, times are changing with the portal and NIL, so the make up of where your players come from may too.

I was just reading an article in the Seattle Times about the number of Washington high school players who haven't gotten offers this year. I realize most of these players aren't Pac-12 players but it is interesting that the number getting scholarships this year is down. Maybe there are some hidden possibilities in there.

Playing the 2020 season in Spring 2021 didn’t help.
