Redding and Suggs granted releases from Cougs

I had almost forgot about Suggs late in the season when he came in one of the last 3 games. From Kent saying "he could be special" to gone. Revolving door with the first 2 classes. The entire first class of 4 now gone. I wasn't expecting much but 0-fer doesn't work. First one gone from the last class. So 5 of 10. That's a good hit rate if the 5 left are legit. I'm pretty sure we can't say that as of yet and 3 more of those finish out their eligibility after next season.

This frees up two scholarships. They are needed and new players are needed. I hope that Kent can land Flynn and another wing. Suggs seemed to have ability but never did hit his full stride. The guards need to make better decisions with the ball. Next year i believe that the team would be better off not playing Ike. He has great athleticism but never leaned how to play basketball. The team never did develop unity and cohesion. That falls upon Kent to play the right combinations and have them play as a unit. A good PG can make everyone on the team better and really improve the big man production.

So with Boese gone, Ike will become your new whipping boy. How about holding the coach accountable for poor recruiting to date and lack of player development, not to mention a half court offense that is ineffective and no commitment to defense? Kent gets one more year in my book and if we don't improve dramatically...especially with so many seniors next year... I'm ready to find a younger, up and coming coach whose trend line is up, not down. In his last 4 years of coaching...2 with UO and now 2 at WSU...Kent has a conference record of 17-55.

What a solid concept.

So now there are 9 to give instead of 7 and apparently only 1 prospect. How does anyone think they can fill that many scholarships with decent players? Redding scared the hell out of me every time he entered the game. How he ever scored 30 in HS is beyond me. He had not shot beyond a layup. I though Suggs had some potential and possibly been a contributor next year.

What half-court offense?

if it was possible I would cut bait and move on now. I didn't like the hire but I like Kent more than I anticipated. He's simply not the answer other than a continued spiral down. He will get at least another year. If they make staff changes I hope someone comes in that could take over the program. They have to do something.

I agree with Glad on the replacement though. Find someone who is going to build it right. You can't go all in with JCs unless they are legit Pac 12 players. Trying to win with marginal talent who only have 2 years is recipe for disaster. You have to bite the bullet and find high school players you can build around. At least that's how I see it.

First class is all out the door and 1 from last year. Two to give this spring. I try to be optimistic but I'll believe it when I see who they are able to sign this spring.

Boese is gone and that is addition by subtraction. Ike Has physical skills but does not play well in a team concept. Boese had few skills and should have played in a lower classification. Ike can play if he concentrates on defense and is not the primary ball handler. . The coaching needs to step up develop a cohesive unit.i would suspect that the team members did not really get along famously that said with no real knowledge if that is true. It just seem to be reflected in poor team play. i see where on the other board "fans" were hoping that Hawkinson would transfer. A couple of " fans" here are kinda of lambasting Malache Flynn. i guess that they are trying go help with the recruiting?Flynn shoots 97 %nfrom the free throw line and was shooting 67% from the filed for a long stretch I do not know wht he ended up shooting but a player like this has potential. perhaps the "fans here " will do anything they can to help the program? The fans here gave leach a couple more years to build his team while June has been here for nine years. What is the difference in the coaches?

Well, in year two Leach took WSU to a bowl game. In year two, Ernie took WSU to a 17 game losing streak. So much for that comparison. I look at the other board too. Nobody was hoping Hawkinson would transfer but several said they wouldn't blame him. That's just hyperbole on your part. As for Flynn, I welcome him if he decides to choose WSU. Ernie will have to strike gold on these non-rated players, which is possible. His track record at WSU so far suggests he is missing more often than hitting on these recruits.

All 4 of his initial recruits have transferred. Lets hope that he starts to get it right. I agree with you on Iroegbu but it's still in doubt whether Ernie can recruit anyone better. So far his best players are Bone's recruits including the one you used to hammer away on in Hawkinson..

Rich

There are two more 2016 openings for Spring Signings. The 7 are for fall 2017 and that would go down by two to just 5 if Kent signs some.

Correct on the 2 openings. For fall, isn't the available to sign count now at 6? Callison, Iroegbu, Que, Hawkinson, Clifford, Izundu.

You guys are right. I counted Suggs twice. My point was there are 8 to sign the remainder of this year regardless of whether it's spring or fall. I lumped the 2016 and 2017 openings together because I haven't heard a thing about anyone signing this spring, and only Malachi Flynn for fall. I just don't see where players of adequate ability are going to come from. There's no news on anyone except Flynn. Plus I saw somewhere that SMU was looking at him. If you were him and you had a chance to go to SMU and play for Larry Brown where would you go?

I originally forgot Suggs' spot would be gone for next year & was still at 7. Geography could help with Flynn and Pac 12. Kent has to be younger than Brown to isn't he?

8 spots to give spring and fall is a program changer one way or the other. I think most don't have a good feeling it will go in the direction we would like it to go. Hopefully that's not the way it goes. It can all turn on a couple good recruits.

SMU is on probation and there are big problems within the program. These four recruits will serve as the nucleus for a few years and it is important that they are both good players and solid citizens.Kent needs some consistent outside shooting.Flynn and Aquaah would help provide that. i saw video on Polard and it looks like he has improved his offensive game and added a medium range jumper. I guess that we will have to see whom ,Kent is able to add this year.
