Riley Sorn is a 7 3 235 pd center from Richland Wa. He averaged 12.9 pts.8.2 rbs and 3.8 blks. He will graduate in 2018. He is a project but i really like the kid. His whole family is athletic with a sister playing college ball . His mother is 6 2 a former basketball player( Boise St) and his dad is 6'6 former baseball player. i like that as it means he is a not a freak but a product of good genes. He runs the court fairly well and has good timing on his blocks. He has a solid frame and should be able to put on about 30-40 pds easily with weight training.I think that the cougs are on to him. He will need two years before he will see the court, but he will be worth the wait. What is see most is an inner fire to compete and excel. That cannot be taught and he wants to be a good basketball player,He is not a just a tall person pushed into basketball because he is tall. I think that he will work hard to weight lift ,become stronger, learn offensive moves and become a solid D1 player. Go get him Ernie.

Nice description of a promising recruit El C.

Sorn's someone to keep an eye on but definitely a project. From watching one of his games I do agree he has some fire. He's incredibly thin especially in his upper body. Size is something I rarely think should be a concern but something you have to consider with Sorn.

There is now a lot of discussion on the other board about Sorn. There seems to be debate on whether or not to go after him, It is a no brainer as far as i am concerned. He has great hands and a very good court awareness, those also cannot be taught. I gather from the discussion that he comes from a great family and is a great person. His HS team plays at a up and down tempo and he has not only fit in but has started to be a star on the team. From watching his videos i think that he will make a rapid and great improvement. if one looks at his body frame,he has square big shoulders and his lower body is strong. For those wanting a shorter stouter type center ,they are not thinking of his physical development. When he is about 7'4 275 pds, he will dwarf a smaller guy. He can run the court and has timing, the rest will follow. Coach Kent should offer him right now.

I often argue against recruiting size for the sake of size. However it is not like Ernie is sifting through applications from 4 star kids. For that reason alone he can afford to recruit Sorn. In addition the points you make are spot on when evaluating bigs who are mostly projects.

He runs well but I don't see a lot of athleticism or quickness. I'm not sure about his hands in terms of great but not blocks of cement either.

I hope we can find more 'ready made' but you also don't want to miss on a 7-3" kid from Richland who knocks it out of the part on off-court things as well. So I guess I have changed my tune on this one.

We will see if Sorn improves as much during his senior year ,as he has from his soph to junior year.If he does, there may be more teams offering him a scholarship.I say take a chance and offer him early.
