Roberto Gittens signs with

Just as I posted in the other thread Gittens goes Coug! is announced. Nice pickup at this late stage.

This guy will challenge for a starting position right away.. He has a complete game which is unusual for many HS players He knows how to use his body and can score without using his leaping ability. In fact if one just watched him without seeing his dunks ,one would say he is a very good player. Someone with hyperbole on the other board, likened him to Adrian Dantley, for us old timers. He has won a dunking contests beating Markelle Fultz from the dogs in one.He is 6'5 205 pds.

Now that he has finally chased his old cronies from the staff, Ernie better be giving Curtis Allen a serious raise. Curtis has recruited Gittens, Flynn, Acquah, and Daniels.

I will also guess that Ed Haskins had a big hand in all of this.I wonder who the other assistant coach is?. Recruiting may take a big upturn with Haskins and an another coach on staff

The reports I have seen only mentioned Curtis Allen as the recruiter

So basically the entire backcourt future? ;)

I'm still thinking Hinson will figure in big next year but the more competition the better.

He seems to be able to dunk. Porter seemed to like what he was seeing. ;)

Things are looking up a bit. He's a great athlete, something that's been pretty scarce on Friel Court in quite awhile.

Call me surprised. The way he talked after his visit did not leave me warm and fuzzy about the prospects of him becoming a Coug. I am glad I was wrong. Welcome to being a Coug.

There are a lot of ifs, but we should be a lot better next year and pretty damn good in the 18-19 season. The JCs and redshirts need to pan out. Franks needs to get consistent and Flynn needs to continue to improve. Gittens looks like a real good get, but it's going to take more than him. At this point I'm more hopeful than I have been for a long time.

I wouldn't go as far as saying we are going to be much improved next year as a team, but this without a doubt makes the overall future look brighter! WSU back court should be at least competitive and if the front court can improve to a similar level it will make for an entertaining season. I've always felt it is important to recruit well in your own back yard and for all of our short comings recruiting lately coach Kent has done a very nice job in that aspect and this raises the bar even higher... Great job coach!!! Or coaches what ever the case may be!!

Great addition. In some ways POY is more impressive than the 4 star ranking when it comes to in state kids.

Flynn Franks Daniels and Pollard will all be improved. Gittens and Hinson look like solid additions. Acquaah should also be good based on practice reports snd being a solid 3 star out of high school

We will miss Ike and Callison's experience but the talent and depth looks better in the backcourt. Pollard will get stronger, works hard, and is smart but he really needs to develop his ability to finish at the rim and the little hook shot he used last year.

Supposedly, Arinze 6'9 SF/{F has looked very good in practice.Kent ,in his usual hyperbole, said" he was unstoppable at times." In Cooper, they have someone who can protect the basket. They have not had that the past two years. The future looks brighter and the athleticism will be much improved.

What is funny about this whole thing is a group of little nerds on the other board are knocking the kid as somehow being over rated. This group are the same nerds who praise a player for transferring to SDSU where they will " have to fight for playing time" SDSU is in a crummy one bid league and the MWC is weak. A player who chooses a PAC 12 team is going to play against much better competition, the whole year.Gittens has a lot of potential and he has to develop. But if he does he can have a bright future. He will be playing in a tough league and the weaker teams seem to be doing a good job of recruiting. One develops by playing against tough players and good teams. I am looking forward to next season.

Brandy has an article on Gittens that I thought was balanced. The thrust was 'good get but Gittens isn't Klay Thompson' at the same stage. A poster also had a highlight package that I thought was better than what I had seen before. He looked more ready and again made me think of a taller and bigger version of Lacy or that the Kent hyperbolic statement of 'Freddie Jones' wasn't too hyperbolic.

It is always a crap shoot, buy pretty hard to see the down side of landing a 4 star kid.

I don't see anything so bad about his shooting stroke. Sometimes his body control looks awkward going up but his release is pretty good

The thing i really like about Gittens is his ability to see the court. He has good ball handling ability and is a very good passer. He has a complete game ,probably better than Klay at the same time. Klay was/is an excellent shooter and scorer, now one of the best in the World..If Gittens progresses as a player will be seen. He has a long way to go but has all the tools.

I also see where people are saying that Kispert ,Davis etc are much better prospects than Gittens . i think the opposite but it will be interesting to see how these Washington high school players develop.

I really liked what I saw from Kispert but like avabob said pretty hard to see any down side to signing a 4 star recruit

Excellent pickup by Coach Kent with special kudos to Curtis Allen & Ed Haskins. Maybe we are looking at different boards, but I only see one guy knocking Gittens and that's the same guy who is a royal pain in the a-- know-it-all on the other board. Not sure there's a group of nerds.....everyone but one person has been positive.

Glad Cougar

Not exactly a big knock either.

The worst compliment is one of a back handed variety. The good thing is that people s interest, albeit small, are starting to talk about hoops.

No guarantees but I think we will be better this year even with the loss of Hawk. Totally different level, but look how GU improved despite the loss of Sabonis and Wiltger thanks to addition if Goss. It is a guard driven game and the addition of Acquaah, Gittens and Hinson trump the loss of Callison and Ike.
