DeGray's a 6'7" PF from Colorado (c/o 2019). Had offers from Nebraska, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State among others. Recent offers from Tulane, UMass, and WSU.

He hasn't been officially hired, to my knowledge, but I notice that Derrick Phelps' hash tag is part of DeGray's tweet. Phelps is hard at work already!

Glad Cougar

While I'm sure someone will cry about sloball and how he has "better" offers, I like the recruits our new staff is after. Lots of intriguing HS prospects.

Yeah as i said they will have to pick out the 2 star rated players who can help them .Of course offering them and landing them are two different things. Funny i can recall all of the sarcasm about the past recruitment of 2 star players. Degray of course is rated as a 2 star player.

Smith mentioned Phelps in the Chazanow interview so he's official. Also said the rest probably announced over the next week to 10 days I believe.

I heard that in the interview.....but haven't seen anything out of WSU that's official. I'm assuming Phelps is on board and that an announcement will be made when the other assistant coaches are official.

Hmm so is an person who is not employed by the University illegally using it s resources and money? But will CHun cover his butt together a short term contract?

If we were recruiting this guy a month ago El would be telling us how he might go pro after one year! Lol! So predictable and so spiteful it’s actually quite hilarious.

On Monday Phelps was still going through a background check but Smith has commented he had been hired. Try again.

Fixed your post

ElC, now you are just being stupid, combative, and all-around anti-Coug. Aren;t you the one lecturing us not long ago how negative comments on this site hurt recruiting? So how does that dovetail with your recent butt-hurt behavior?

You guys are funny. Everyone piled on the past regime for any discrepancy. Now your guys are trying to pump up your fair hired mediocre coach and hate any deviation from the new normal. Chun has made some disastrous financial moves and he will be held to account for them in the long run .Somehow his idiocy in bringing in a financial sports consultant to lecture was a attempt to lock the barn door after the cows are out. .It is laughable and the foundation or grave site for coug basketball is now in the process. It will be interesting to see how it plays out If Kent s recruits stay the coach has a chance to have a better record If they leave,Chun and Smith will be giving out free basketball tickets to anyone who wanders by Bohler.

Kent failed!! Fail in game coaching!! Failed in recruiting!!! Failed in game prep/ scouting!! Why in the hell would you or anybody else have wanted him retained? His time at WSU was as bad as Graham’s time at WSU. There is no legitimate argument for Kent’s retention even financially, Chun had no choice.

I believe I was quite supportive of Kent. But he is gone and it was time to move on.

Oh gawd you are ridiculous. And while I can't believe I am defending Chun, he did not bring in the sports consultant, Per the Evergreen:

"The Foley Institute hosted Sports Economist Andrew Zimbalist to speak...."

Last I looked, the Foley Institute does not report to Athletics. But you are right - it was Chun's "idiocy" that the Foley Institute did that.

And Chun has made "some" disastrous moves? Such as? You can point to firing EK as a disastrous move if you want, but you will be alone in that assessment. What other moves are you referring to? "Some" means more than one or two...…

You have to be the only person in America (North, South and Central) who thinks Kent should have been retained. Well, you and Kent. But I bet you that he is damn glad he got fired with his 3 year payoff intact.

Maybe a legitimate argument from the financial side of the equation, but Chun clearly felt Smith would generate an additional 4.2 million over what Kent would have generated over the next 3 years.

It looks like he is picking between Kansas state or Oklahoma St. Degray likes the "style" which KSU plays. Perhaps the cougs can convince him to visit Pullman?

I'm sure that if he visits WW and reads your posts he will be booking the next flight to Pullman. Probably charter. Lear jet.

Is Chun living in Never never land? Smith generating 4.2 million in additional income over the next three years is hilarious. Smith has never participated in post season play. What a joke.

There's really not much you can say that will keep me from enjoying and supporting WSU basketball now that we have removed an ineffective coach. I'm sorry that you feel the need to hate on the AD and new coach. Seems petty and small minded to me, but I remain happy with the turn of events. Go Cougs!

20+ win seasons(And Smith had about 4 to 7, 20+ win season), at St Mary's, Columbia, USF, USD, etc, are, or should be NCAA Tourney appearances.

If any Power 5 team wins 20+ wins, they are going to the NCAA Tourney.

So going by that Smith has reached 20+ wins 4 to 7 times, and has gone to the CIT, CBI, and the equivalent, wins wise, at 20+ wins, of,at 4 to 7 NCAA Tourneys, for 6 to 9 postseason CIT, CBI, NCAA poat season tournament equivalents.

20 win seasons at a lower conference is nothing to write home about except Smith had winning records at perennial doormats. 20 wins in the PAC-12 is at least an NIT, while a couple more earns a decent seed in the NCAA tournament.

Just look at his overall coaching record at both places .Also his team may have quit on him during his last season He lost 4 out of his last 5 regular season games and then got beat by a Romar coached team in the Tournament s first round. Coaches get fired for that kind of coaching not awarded a gig at three times their salary in a better conference.

I put far more weight into his consistent coaching history of turning multiple, perpetual losing programs into solid/winning programs.

Your concern above could easily be a funk/slump, like many teams experience in every sport from time to time. For example, in 2016, our beloved Mike Leach was 8-2, ranked #20 with 3 games remaining. We lost all 3, and instead of potentially having another 10/+ win season and being ranked #10-20, we finished un-ranked at 8-5. Did our players quit on coach Leach, who will more than likely go down as the greatest football coach in WSU history?

Btw, our football team has gone 20-6 since our team "quit" on coach Leach at the end of the 2016 season.
