Say whatttt, Big12 for the Cougs?

I'll believe it when I see it. Some dude on a podcast throwing out words doesn't mean anything. FWIW, that guy on the podcast talks like he's involved with the Buffaloes and he needs to watch what he says if he is. I believe that it's still an NCAA violation to publicly talk about recruits before signing day.

I'm hoping that he's right because I feel like a rebuilt Pac-12 using MWC schools would get the shaft on TV contracts but at the same time, there's a part of me that wants a regional conference instead of a pod inside a bigger conference. We'd be in a six team division with the other Pac-12 schools. I could see us getting BYU instead of CU though. Those guys on the video made it pretty clear that the Buffaloes are tired of getting their asses handed to them by the Pac-12.

There’s an awful lot of smoke.

Nothing out there about this seems to point to anything reliable. It’s all speculation, like it has been for the last couple months. Even these “breaking” videos are all about “if” and “could.” This guy from Colorado talking about recruits is at best 3rd hand - ‘someone told me that someone said…’

Maybe it’ll turn out to be true, but until something much more meaningful emerges I’m not going to get excited about it. What looks like smoke to some too often turns out to be steam coming from a pile of fresh bullshit.

Dude, it's a FORMER BIG TIME CU PLAYER that made a appearance on some other place, video(not this guy's video source).

All this video source did was QUOTE, SHOW, REFERENCE, ETC, THAT OTHER VIDEO SOURCE THAT HAD THAT FORMER CU player.

That former BIG TIME CU player said in that other video source appearance, that 2 current Washington State recruits told him that Washington State is telling them that they are joining Big 12.

That's not some random less credible Internet guy saying that.

That Internet guy is SHOWING, QUOTING this semi credible source.

It's semi credible because technically the Washington State Recruits could either be misunderstanding WSU, telling the truth, lying, etc, an or the former CU player could have misunderstood the Washington State recruits that talked to him, or he is telling the truth, or lying, etc.

But this Internet guy is just showing what this former BIG TIME CU player said.

While the former BIG TIME CU player is semi credible, the probability, is that there is probably about a 67% + chance that he is right.

Your characterization that this is just some random non credible Internet guy IS OFF, WRONG.

This would be like comparable to let's say that some big time, former WSU player like Anthony Gordon, etc, were to say(IF it was CU left behind, instead of WSU) that CU recruits told him(former WSU QB Anthony Gordon), that CU was telling them as CU recruits, that CU was going to join the Big 12.

If that would have happened, I don't think we would like it if those on a CU message board, etc, were to call into question Anthony Gordon's reliableness, accuracy, etc.

Same here. Very hopeful, though. The Cougs and Beavs are good fits in the Big 12 on a variety of fronts. The Big 12 previously was described as wanting to get some west coast (PT) inventory, too, and that makes sense from a TV overlord perspective.

I too, will believe it when I see it. But I have to say that this past Spring & Summer the Big 12 was on overdrive with their propaganda about how they were going to pick up the four-corner schools. And then they did! So, to be continued.

Thinking about it a bit more critically, I actually think this is a real possibility. About 6 weeks ago Yomark supposedly recommended WSU and OSU as prudent choices to expand. Then a few days later it was 100% reverse course and expansion shut down. But why? Well…should WSU and or OSU join the big12 and or announce anything, they find themselves in the boat of the 10 they are arguing against. They would have no recourse for assets other than dissolving and a 12 way split of remaining funds /network sell off. What assets are available can’t be determined until post litigation or settlement. So what should an interested party say? We have zero interest. That serves their actual interest the best.

If any coaches or players are saying they plan to or will join the Big12, it’s obviously a huge mistake. We need to stay as far away from intent until a settlement or ruling is made.

Could “there is zero interest and consideration” mean just that? Yes. But it could just as well be two parties playing their hand correctly to win in the end.

Exactly, that will make us no better than the others.

It's a money grab, some get more than others OSU and WSU are still trying to figure out what they are entitled to. Until WSU and OSU get clarification on who gets what with the remaining funds in the Pac 12, and what their legal rights are to those funds, you won't hear anything. They could easily not announce anything until 8/2/24, as I believe the drop dead date for everyone else is 8/1. If they announce now they probably have to split everything equally among the 12 schools. Wait a while and it might be a 2 team split. You have to balance between the money, if any, and the recruiting harm you are dealing with while in limbo.

This is the way to look at it. The bylaws say that a notice of departure can't be delivered prior to 8-1-24. The bylaws do not prohibit us from exploring a move, or even agreeing to one...they just say we can't deliver notice.

So, we could quietly arrive at a deal with the Big 12 and just sit on the announcement without violating the bylaws, and we'd still retain our rights to the conference assets and a vote on the CEO council.

There's also another approach...push the court case, get the court to agree with us and take the vote away from the 10, leaving us and OSU as the only voting members. Vote to retain the media rights of the 10, as allowed by the bylaws. Vote to split that money 50/50. And then, at the next meeting, vote to change the bylaws so that we can announce a move and keep the money.

Both are a little shady...but still stay within the rules.

And, I'll still believe it when I see it.

The problem would seem that quietly doing that jeopardizes your current roster retention and the prospect of bringing the best potential class, or even fending off other schools trying to poach you head and assistant coaches, no? That's all I have to say about that.

Is the bird in the hand of going to the Big 12 better than the possible 2 in the bush of getting all the monies?

Not that kind of bush loyal.

This would mean itis highly unlikely coaches are telling recruits we are going to big 12 as that podcast asserts

I agree, but would not be surprised if there is purposefully vague or predictive conversations that end up passed around like the telephone game, and it’s being reported wrong. I could see coaches saying we believe we will be a P4 conference or something similar to the big12 etc. and it’s being said we are claiming to be a future member.

Stop it! Although I am meeting my 23 year old in a few minutes. :)
