SC defense is still soft

Looks like sc last year. They only gave up 4 yards short of 400 to SJSU. I find it difficult to think they can beat ND in Southbend. Their defense isn’t very good.

The only LA area mystery to me greater than SC's failure to recruit, train & field a good D is UCLA's failure...period.

Maybe the Chipster will run the table this year in his bid to leave the PAC on a high note. But I doubt it.

But, but, but, USC and UCLA are super duper, way more important. What was holding them down was the equal revenue sharing with schools like WSU and OSU....

The equal revenue sharing with schools like Rutgers and Indiana will totally elevate USC and UCLA to greatness!!!!

SC's athletic department has not been competently run in a while. That is likely to become increasingly more obvious.

UCLA's athletic department has never been fully competent in football. Only John Wooden & Gene Bartow's efforts gave them any significant success, and of course that was hoops, not football. Overall, UCLA does less with more in the major sports than any other P5 school. But, hey, the travel points will help that....

Lincoln Riley always had soft defenses at Oklahoma. We tend to forget that Oklahoma under Bob Stoops had some good defenses, especially his first ten years. USC under Carroll had that toughness, but have since become the high flying passing attack. You wonder why Michigan has been able to defeat a more talented Ohio State the last two years? Ryan Day.

Georgia has dominated the last two years due to their defensive talent. I mean they dominated with Stetson Bennett as their QB. USC has been beaten by a less talented Utah team ,because Whittingham has a tough, disciplined defense. A dying trend in the game today.

ESPN’s game write up for USC ends with:
Coordinator Alex Grinch's defense still has plenty of work to do, particularly against mobile quarterbacks such as Cordeiro.”

This amuses me. Makes me wonder why Grinch is ever mentioned as an HC candidate at all. His defenses couldn’t handle a mobile QB (even one with 2 knee braces) at WSU, couldn’t handle them at Oklahoma - even when they practiced against one every day - and they can’t handle them now. The guy has shown zero ability to adapt or improve, he just makes the same mistakes with better players.
