Scrimmage Saturday vs Montana

Probably will get very little information if any from this scrimmage. I noticed that some teams are playing charity exhibitions in which they can sell tickets and keep score. The Huskies went down to Nevada and beat them by 20 points this weekend - a loaded Nevada team that is preseason top 10. They did it without Dickerson who might be their most valuable player.

Montana is a loaded team which will be in the NCAA's so this will be a good outing for both teams.

Montana won the scrimmage I hope somebody gave travis a good tour of the university
After the scrimmage.

No big surprise as an experienced veteran team with decent talent will be far ahead at this juncture. The preseason games are meaningless. Nevada a highly ranked team in the preseason got run off the court in a preseason game.South Carolina lost to D 11 Augustana in an exhibition game. How the players react is important.

These off the books scrimmages even more so. That is why they run them that way.

Montana is picked third in the preseason Big Sky poll. Nevada got beat bad by UW, big difference. Maybe our preseason schedule isn’t weak enough?

I saw a headlined article in SR this morning detailing the GU closed door scrimmage with Mich State. I thought there were rules about this, but maybe they have changed. I would like to see that kind of info on the Cougar scrimmage

Wrong Montana the 2018 winner was picked to repeat as Big Sky champs this year. Montana got 10 out of 11 first place votes of the leagues coaches in the most recent poll. The media also gave the grizzlies 33 out of 35 first place votes.I do not know what poll jourdand was is referring to.

Closed scrimmages are chances to look at a lot of players in a game type of scrimmage against another team.. It also lets a staff experiment with different lineups and different defensive and offensive sets The main objective is not to win the scrimmage.Somehow that may be lost on some fans.

Your right elcomanche this team and coaching staff has done more then enough these
pass few seasons then worry about a BIG SKY team with a better roster, better players
and a better coaching staff coming in and beating them in a cheap closed door
scrimmage I am sure Ernie Kent will figure it out just like he does every year.

I like your enthusiasm and forecast of a terrible season. Perhaps you may want to take me up on a bet that the cougs will play above .500 ball this season?Last year s Montana team beat Pittsburgh, lost by 3 pts to udub in Seattle and lost by 61-47 to Michigan in the first round of the Big Dance. So their 26-8 season indicates a quality D 1 team not over[powering but good basketball and a quality team. But again a closed scrimmage is really not indicative of how good a team will be. Perhaps it is more important for Montana to fine tune a veteran team? The cougs are still looking at players and and lineups at this point.

It's all good elcomanche I am hoping you are correct that they can play above 500 ball and with
there non conference opponents not being very strong they may have a chance but as far as
The Pac 12 goes I can't think of other then maybe cal who they will finish in front of and that
Is a real problem the school the community deserve better. Look at what the football team is
doing they are exceeding expectations not settling for mediocre.

I do not have any problem with higher expectations. If Kent does not deliver then he should resign.

You guys realize that arguably the best team in WSU history over the last 40 years was only 11-7 in conference.

Yep, we realize that fact.....just as I'm sure you realize that, in 4 years, Ernie Kent is averaging 4.5 conference wins and 13.5 losses per season.

Glad Cougar

Not arguing for Ernie. I am not sure he is doing a good job of coaching up, and developing kids. I think there are younger high energy coaches out there who could could do incrementally better. The point is those 4.5 wins per year might only increase to 6.5 based on the history of coaching at WSU. Even Tony was only able to get 8 conference wins his last year with Baynes, Rochestie Klay, Capers and Casto.

Lots of cowards on this board for not taking ElC's .500 bet. Even if the Cougs went 10-3 (losses to 3 of Idaho, New Mexico St, Rider, or San Diego) in non conference, they'd still need to go 6-13 in conference to finish the season at 16-16. Sweep Cal and win two surprise games in conference and where are the other two conference wins?

Unless folks think this team is good enough to win 6-8 non conference games, get to a lesser post season tournament, but really want Kent gone, so they are hedging so they can complain about how the CBI isnt good enough.

For the record, I think you gotta fire Kent if he doesn't win half his games this year.

i am going to take the pressure off these guys by rescinding my bet offer. I will let things unfold after weeks of poking an empty hornets nest.

Oh we realize it Bob, and one of those young guys is at Montana and should have had a serious look by WSU but Moos didn't even give him a call. Montana recruits Seattle better than Ernie and all of his assistants to include those who have departed.

Some here think that miracles are going to happen, and I hope that they do, but not as far as conference wins go.

You nailed it 7Icoug they should have went all in on Joe pasternick or travis decuire both are top
notch recruiters who both know the conference very well.

Do you think with our ooc making

That's the point I was making in another thread. With the weak OOC schedule we should be able to manage a .500 regular season. Not saying we will but anything less than 12-1, 11-2 at worse for our OOC schedule would be pretty pathetic. That would leave us needing 5 Pac 12 wins to finish 16-15 for the regular season.

Its all going to come down to how good the jc guards are, and more important how well they meld in with our returnees. I had hopes for Callison and Suggs when they arrived, and that didnt turn out so well. Ali and Robinson appear to have better credentials coming in so that gives me some hope.

Ernie will shock the world this season ...
