Seattle radio saying Leach is gone

Now we will see just how good a job that the WSU job is.I really think that Miss State has made a big mistake and will pay for it down the road. Could be sour grapes but i think that Leach has had his best days.

Can't call this surprising. He's interviewed for every available SEC job out there.

I think he has too. I’m not saying good riddance I’d prefer he stays because I like winning seasons. But he hit his ceiling last year with WSU, I think he recognized that, and I think he was partially checked out this year. When your DC leaves mid year pretty good indication there’s issues at the top. Sucks going through a coaching change but I trust Chun will make a good hire. Leach is gonna have a tough go at MSU.

ElComm, for possibly the first time ever, I'm going to agree with you. I love Leach and appreciate everything he did for our program; however I too feel that his best days are behind him.

I expect that he'll put together a couple of solid season at Mississippi State, but I'll be FLOORED if he goes 11-2 or 10-3 down there even once. Time will tell.

I'll miss him, however I think Leach hit his ceiling. He didn't put a priority on assistants who could recruit, on defense, or evolving on offense. This next hire will be very important to continue our bowl game success.

You have to figure that the ceiling is fourth in the division. Even if MSU is going to throw crazy money at a new staff.

I do know the Miss St forums were non too excited about a Leach coaching takeover. Almost unanimous in their anti-Leach views. Wonder how he’s gonna win over that base?

I don't blame him for taking the job though. The SEC has moved light years ahead of the P12 as a conference. He's now got a seat at the table with Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, etc. He's much closer to Key West, the travel schedule at Miss State is a lot easier than it is in Pullman, and at 60 years old, if he flames out in a few years, so what? He'll still be hirable elsewhere, and by then, a program like Florida International may be all he wants.

Onward and upward.

Perhaps Leach will take his defensive coaches with him? :) Perhaps his drinking buddies with him :) The staff are going to be scrambling for jobs now.

They flipped the script after they whiffed on their past few candidates. Most of them are happy now, but yes, there are still a lot of skeptics.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Leach brings in Rocky Long to be his DC.

I'm not going to say that Mike Leach has had his best days....but he's always had a ceiling over his head because of who he is as a coach. He's an idiot for taking the job because they are going to freak out when he costs them a couple games per year with bafflingly bad coaching decisions (kick the f'ing field goal, Mike!) and if they do have some success, they are going to be angry when he interviews for every major job opening that comes up.

I'm disappointed that he's leaving, but he's kind of like a verbally abusive husband who has a high paying job. The wife takes the abuse because she's worried that she can't do better, but she's happy when he's gone. I was willing to let him yell at press conferences and act like a dillhole because he did a good job overall, but I'll be happier if we can find a coach who can give us some success without being a jerk.

That's how I feel too. It was obvious he wanted out, especially to the SEC. There comes a point where if you want out, then go.

First of all, Thank-you CML for turning WSU back into a winning program.
Five years in a row to a bowl game. Never done before.
Eleven wins in one year. Never done before.
He'll be remembered as one of the best coaches at WSU ever.

As for a new hire, if WSU can get a solid basketball coach considering where the state of the program was over the last decade then surely they can secure a quality coach for football which is one year removed from an 11 win year.

Whoever gets the job I still would like to see an Air Raid type of offense at WSU and I'm sure the A.D. is thinking that way.
