Per Theo’s article It’s beginning to look like all the Seniors May get another year of eligibility, if the school elects to give them a scholarship for an additional year. So that will lead to the next question, If seniors are granted an extra year of playing time, or that sixth year, why not everyone else that plays this year.

If you were a frosh, soph or junior with a 7 game season and there was a chance it could be less if games were cancelled due to an outbreak... if the ability to opt out without losing a year exists why wouldnt you protect your eligibility and opt out?

They can’t give seniors an extra year and not do the same for everyone. They’re all impacted the same, so any remedy needs to be the same. This year just shouldn’t count.
But then a different equity question comes up - how many schools can carry an additional 10/15/20 scholarships for the next 5 years? And is there a limit on how many extra, is the limit the same for everyone, and how does it phase out over time?

I’ll wait until the season is over to comment. If they get all 7 games in, then this is a full season. If they opt out with the intent of returning next year, how does that impact their development if they can’t train and practice with the team.

I hope the NCAA grants them an extra year, even if it’s academic only.

Imo, 7 out of a possible 12 or 13 isnt a full season. It’s half a season. And it could easily be less, UofHouston as an example.

Totally agree that losing reps hurts. That is definitely something to consider. Totally agree that losing use of facilities hurts. That is definitely something you would have to work around.

Agree. How do you tell seniors they get another year while everyone else goes without?

How do you manage the extra scholarships??? Definitely could be an issue for some schools.

We've only had this discussion on this board 4 or 5 times. No one loses a year of eligibility this year if they play or if they opt out. That's the NCAA's decision. Don't overthink it.
