Going to assume we whiffed on him.. Maybe we didn't go after him, but it seems like he would have been a great choice.

Why do you assume this? Why do you have to think in the negative? Let the process play out.

I don't see why everyone's so worried about this. Might not even have been a target. Just because he's going to OSU doesn't mean all the recruits we pillaged are going to flip back. None of them were committed to Wisconsin or Utah.

I do hope Leach and Moos make a big time hire and soon though...dump the damn truck if needed to get it done, because OSU did make a quality hire and we don't need them passing us by. I still think they've got something exciting in the bag and we will find out soon.

They just set a baseline for Moos- he complained about where fan support stood for the Cougs compared to the Beavs- let's see about administration support. It also looks like he wanted to bring his DL coach, and I like the one we have.

I'd also think this guy would go after Utah commits first and foremost, more churn in this part of the conference standings is fine for us. Wonder if Whittingham is Plan B for Michigan.

That would be my guess.

Several observations seem appropriate to this thread:

- Sitake is a big get for OSU. That speaks for itself.
- Less obvious but just as potentially significant is what it says about Utah. You would have thought that this year would have cut down on the heat on Whittingham's hot seat. But apparently not. And the Utah AD is either a nitwit or he didn't care if he kept Sitake. Since Sitake is clearly a good DC, you have to wonder why the AD was not interested enough in keeping him that he would have used a more appropriate strategy regarding contract renewals. There is a lot of smoke there, but I can't tell at this point what the sources are of the fire…
- Moos/Leach hired somebody for the DC job a while ago. Only way to explain why there has been a total information blackout about a coaching search. Nothing else makes sense. No use stressing out about it. We'll find out who it is when it is possible for WSU to make the announcement. I could even see there being some buyout clause if the guy leaves, but that clause either being foregone or excused if we wait until a certain point to make the announcement. Is that point a bowl game? Or possibly LOI date? The LOI date makes particular sense if a buyout clause is in play.
- Our recruiting is obviously not being hurt in any tangible way by the lack of a DC. So what's the rush?

Nice post, cr8zy. Like it and agree.
I agree. Good post cr8zy. I am not worried until we find out who the coach is. Then, I will make my decision.

You guys are dense. Big Joe is our D coordinator. He did get promoted.
Feliz NAvidad desde Akumal Mexico!!!

It's not really a whiff either since sitake had previously worked with Oregon states coach previously. It would make total sense why he chose Oregon state over wazzu if leach went after him to work with coaches he's worked with before.

Whittingham is essentially the D coordinator at Utah. Andersen is giving Sitake full reins of the D in addition to naming him associate head coach. Things he was not going to get at Utah. With that the move to OSU makes sense if he eventually wants to be a HC.

Many fans at Utah are upset over his departure. However Utah did not renew his contract last year and Sitake was upset over that. It will realy hurt Utah's recruiting of poly's . It was said that Gabe Reid was only considering Utah because of Sitake. I am sure that there are many others like that. One also wonders if they will decommit and follow Sitake to OSU? The situation at WSU is strange and one wonders if Leach wants a big name guy or just wants another" Breske" type of guy.

It isn't obvious to you Leach's new DC is finishing up his current assignment?

Perhaps but there can be many scenarios to the search. Of course, fans being able to pick the correct one breeds intrigue. If they are still negotiating with a certain individual who is still testing the waters ,that may bring more speculation. Not all fans have a linear mind.

The new DC is actually Rex Ryan. Ryan and Leach are friends. Leach has talked Ryan into coming to Pullman to recharge himself and just concentrate on coaching football instead of the garbage he has had to put up with in NY.

Just think if this were true.

That would be pretty awesome. My thought is a hire has been made and there is a gentlemens agreement in place at least, there's either a bowl game or contractual obligation that's keeping the announcement from being made. At this point I think we hear something New Year's Day.

Just couldn't make Leach Beach a "shoes optional" experience.

I don't know if I could handle the press conferences....

I would be okay if we didn't hear until after Jan 2nd if it meant David Gibbs was scored.

Gibbs would make sense at this point. He interviewed with Texas Tech recently, and I'd certainly think we could afford to pony up more. He's making $400k at Houston and with a pac12 competitive DC offer he could just about double that here. Leach continues to recruit Texas pretty hard as well so having another coach with roots there makes sense from the recruiting geography standpoint.

I suspect that our new DC was sewn up before Gibbs interviewed at TT, so I doubt that it is him. Though he would be just fine with me….

Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking too. I would think Gibbs would have been on Leach's short list so knowing that he was interviewing with tech recently has me presuming leach got someone else that was higher on his list. We'll see.
