Snyder retiring from Kansas State

Seth Rogen would be more recognized in recruits' living rooms (especially if mom likes the ganja).

Fair enough. You'd be surprised at how excited Kansas State fans are about him. He's led North Texas to 9 wins two years in a row and knows the state of Texas and coaches in Texas know him. I don't know if he's the right choice (and if he'll actually go to KSU) but everyone I know down here is excited about him. The downside is that if he is actually a rising star, KSU needs to understand that they are just renting him and he won't be there for long if he succeeds.

Wow really. I thought Leavitt or Brett Venables would be the guy I thought they wanted that job for like forever.

I think KSU fans wanted someone younger than Leavitt. He's 62 years old and I think they've had their fill of old geezers on the sideline. I think that they might have interest in Venables but I'm not sold that Venables is looking for a head coaching job right now. He's pulling down $2 million per year as the DC at Clemson. He's getting head coach money but he doesn't have to worry about being interviewed as he runs off the field and nobody is asking him about recruiting classes. Frankly, he'd be a dumbass to leave unless he's got enough money that he feels that he has the ability to risk it all for his own legacy.

Who cares if they are just renting him for 5 years or so? The trick is to pick someone that others will want later. Anything else was not the optimum choice.

Judging by this picture, it looks like Mario Cristobal can't wait to get rid of Leavitt.

In the words of Moe Howard, "Why, I oughta......"

Word on the street here is that KSU offered Venables $5.2 million per year plus a $4 million per year budget for assistant coach salaries and he said that he appreciated the offer but he didn't want to be the guy to follow Bill Snyder.

Why isn’t Tedford s hot commodity for these job openings ? He’s s damn good coach and wins. Is it his age now ? Personally think he would have been great at Colorado. Rather have a proven head coach winner in Tedford than a D coordinator no one ever heard of, well except for maybe a few board geeks.

Earl, Tedford seems to be a coach that knows what he is doing but wears on people. By the time he left Cal he had just about every group on campus after him. The last year they won 3 games and had Keenan Allen. Certainly, you can't gripe about 8 bowls in 11 seasons, but they had losing seasons the last 2 out of 3 years, and there was a lot of residual angst by the time he was fired.

Can't argue with what he has done at FSU. And he isn't 60 yet, so presumably there are more miles left in his tank.

Your Colorado point has both pro's and con's. CO is politically and socially probably the closest to Cal of any of the PAC schools, so that would be something with which he has direct experience. On the other hand, that may make it unattractive for Tedford. Certainly FSU is on the opposite side of the political spectrum from both Cal and CO, and they treat him like a king in Fresno.

I guess if he were to move within the PAC, I'd expect him to end up at one of the Arizonas.

In 2005' Bill was supposed to have one foot in the grave and the other foot on a banana peel.....yet, he averages between 7-5 and 8-4 per season since coming back in 2009' at the age of 70. He might live past many posters on here. Hats off to the 18 year olds who believed this could be done.

He's 57.

Mel Tucker is a "hot commodity."

True. Knowing Texas recruiting grounds is very important.

Agree with you about Tedford. SC would be wise to fire Helton and hire him.
