....15 days since CJD was let go. Wonder how long it is going to take to hire her replacement? And I don't know much (-0-) about the recruiting cycle, etc. for the Women and whether this is or isn't a critical time. What is a little odd is that on the WSU site JD is gone, but her hubby and the rest of the staff remain. Are we seriously leaving him in charge of the program during the interim period?

While I was there, I got curious and looked at other sports. Kind of interesting, nepotism-wise:
We know about Women's BB
We know about Volleyball (Team Greeny)
Our Baseball HC's wife is the Operations person for BB
Our Swimming HC's wife is an assistant

Other interesting things:
Men's Basketball has 14 players, 4 coaches, 4 support staff
Baseball has 34 players, 4 coaches (one is a volunteer), 1 support staff
Given the wide range of skills and positions in baseball, and more than twice # of the players, why is the basketball staff basically twice as big? 4 times as big relative to the # of players. It is also at least twice as big as Footballs, in proportion to the # of players. Huh.

But you make a great point. Nothing but hires all over the place in WBB and not a word from our AD. Less than inspiring.

I listened to part of the KXLY AD show this week and Chun indicated a hire would be made "soon". Not much out there to speak of though.

Guess he didn't have anyone in mind when he got rid of June.

Someone on brandx posted that Schultz and Mary Jo Gonzalez (student affairs) began following Alaska Anchorage head coach Ryan McCarthy on twitter.

So explain something to this technology dinosaur. I don't do Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or any of that stuff. In fact this place is my only internet presence. If you "follow" someone on Twitter, people can see that?

There's a tab where you can see their "Followers" and who they are "Following" on Twitter.

So I can tab on SaveFerris and it tells me who your followers are. Then I can tab on one of your followers and see who all he/she follows?

Ryan Mc Carthy would be a good choice for the cougs. He is an energetic young coach who seems to coach with enthusiasm and would be a direct contrast to JD. Pullman might be a good landing spot for him and the small town feel would not be a culture shock to him. The fact that he is a D11 coach just means that he would just have to recruit a different type of cat than he is used to recruiting. Basketball is basketball and the good coaches stand out. I like the fact that he has played basketball which says a lot to me.

I would defer to people who know a lot more about coaches than I do but he definitely looks like at least an intriguing potential hire. He built their program after a bit of a scandal, had to find a couple intramural players his first year, and has a high win percentage. Demands a lot of his players, toughness, etc. The women's attendance was higher than all the men's team in their conference.

I honestly didn't think we could have done worse than "one good idea" Bill, but if the latest stories are true, we just doubled down on bad. Who in the hell would want work for a guy who could kick you out of the locker room, and dress down your team? It isn't like WSU WBB was a destination job to begin with.

As for staff size, I've heard that BB can be a revenue sport -- just not in our case. Sadly, at a school like WSU the only reason we have track, soccer, rowing, volleyball, crew, golf and baseball et al. is solely to permit us to play football and m basketball. We are at the NCAA minimum in terms sports offered to qualify as a D1 school. Of course ,you wouldn't know that from the "on field" performance of our non-revenue teams. Since Chaplin left more 20 years ago, we have not won a conference championship in a sport except football, and haven't even come close. You'd think we might have caught lightening in a bottle once, or twice, during that period. The fact that we haven't shows the the admin doesn't give a shite about anything other than football and MBB, which makes June's firing a little strange -- suggesting that the Chun locker room saga, was not received well by June, nor should it have been.

For the past few years, the admin hasn't given a hoot about MBB either. Other than Moos paying EK $1.4 million per year with an automatic rollover year on the contract, there has been zero investment in the men's basketball program. For Moos, the three priorities were football, football, and football.

Just looked up Ryan McCarthy. Might be a good choice and an attempt to replicate the OSU success. Beavers hired Rueck from George Fox (D-III program) and he has built a very strong program. McCarthy reminds me a lot of Rueck.

Glad Cougar

McCarthy would be a great hire. I wonder if there have been any preliminary talks with him? I really like to watch women s basketball. The team work and fundamental basketball are great to watch among the good teams. The women's basketball team was a complete mess this year with an underachieving team, poor coaching, discipline problems, and bad attitudes. If people had really cared, they would have labeled it a true dumpster fire. The waste of money on JD s hubby was an an extravagance, the program could ill afford.Something had to be done. If McCarthy was hired, and he could re recruit a couple of players and one might see a complete turn around.

Hoping McCarthy and Holinsinger are interviewed. McCarthy does remind me of a Rueck type pick. Looked around and there's a lot of good articles on the success he's had with UAA (147-39 for a 79% win %-age). Seems like he would be a great fit for us if we could pry him away from Alaska Anchorage. He grew up in Alaska but also spent time in Oregon. Recruits Hawai'i as well.

Now i have to ask,who is Holinsinger? It sounds like McCarthy s wife may welcome a change in scenary.

Well to compete in the Pac-12 its all about recruiting. Don't know much about McCarthy but he is doing quite well in Alaska. Holinsinger is a former assistant who left and went via a route and ended up at OSU as an assistant. A top flight recruiter in both the US and overseas.

People don't seem to like Big Sky coaches so I sort of wonder about DII coaches, but the big knock on Holinsinger is lack of HC experience.

I would look a bit closer to Spokane for my next head coach.

The other board says that McCarthy is also following the WSU people who are following him.So i expect a formal interview sometime soon.

From a distance I've been wondering about the guy at Central Valley (Rekow?). Seems to be working miracles with those gals. Best high school program in the nation this year!
