I didn't watch the game and have no opinion on the calls/non calls.
SJSU's coach certainly has a legit 4 decades in the game and is knowledgeable.
What is often not understood is that the level of pressure on HC's has gone through the roof. They used to just have to recruit, develop and then field a team and coach it during the game. That was hard enough, and the social media era made it worse. Now they are penalized for developing players by having teams with more $$ simply buy them. The crooked SEC & B10 push to get to 105 roster spots is intended to stockpile more players...not because those teams need more players, but to keep them away from other teams.
The Utah game this weekend against BYU and its aftermath, with the AD saying the game was stolen and Whittingham throwing a chair at the end of his news conference is just one more example. Whittingham is not just a solid head coach; he also generally is careful about his comments & behavior.
I keep wondering when some genius in the ESPN ivory tower will wake up to how disgusted the fan base outside the SEC & B10 is getting, and how that is impacting the viewership. They have metrics; I don't; but if any of my "anecdotal" info is right, there is a shift in desire to view SEC & B10 games. And that pendulum is not swinging in ESPN's favor. I suspect that they think that a 12 team playoff will solve their fan problem...I would guess that it would help. The fact that they don't do a re-rate of the top 25 AP poll after the playoff also stinks...again, rigged to favor those allowed into the playoff.
College football is in trouble. And those that are greedily controlling the purse strings seem incapable of seeing the mid- and long- term impact.
