Evan Weaver, a 6-3, 220-pound defensive end from Gonzaga Prep ... Rivals.com ranks him as the state of Washington's 10th-best prospect for the Class of 2016.

The Cougs have done well in Spokane recently. Looking through the Rivals database, WSU has signed Aaron Dunn, Connor Halliday, Jake Rodgers, Travis Long, Chris Mastin, Jared Karstetter, Dan Spitz, Andy Mattingly and Skylar Jessen from the "LIlac City" during the past 10 years (and Joe Dahl left Montana for WSU, too).

There were a handful of big-name recruits who went elsewhere (B. Rypien, D. Mattingly, Sankey, Charlie Hopkins), but overall WSU has been very tough to beat for many of the top Spokane players.

Weaver's list includes WSU, Arizona, Boise State, Cal, Utah and Washington.

Any word on where he will commit next week?

He's made a few unofficial visits to the dark side....so uw seems to be his lean. WSU just goes out and gets another Logan Tago.

Good point.

WSU Coaches already may have identified a player they like better -- regardless of how highly ranked Weaver is by the recruiting services.

Even WSU fans that might have grumbled last winter about the lack of local signees are satisfied this year as Coach Leach is cleaning up in Washington with 3 commits before the season has even started.

There also is a big offensive tackle, Scott Peck from Central Valley on the east side of Spokane. Peck has offers from WSU plus other schools like Utah, Army, Hawaii and Idaho.

Well UW just got Williams who plays the same position as Weaver so its hard to tell if they are still interested in him. Arizona also got a commitment from a player a few weeks ago as well with the same position.

His film looks good. We all know there's guys like this that sometimes don't get anything larger than a Montana offer. Every few years...a Montana team or EWU team will put together a collection of starters that might compete in Div I if they had better skill players. Peck might end up with 4-5 more Div I offers if he's patient.
