Spokesman Review list of Coaching candidates

Yeah, I wonder why all of the potential candidate lists generated by local writers always focus on PNW and/or West Coast coaches. Very predictable list by Theo with a couple of surprises (Aaron Miles, Brandon Roy). I mean, seriously, is Shantay Legans at EWU really a candidate? I think the Midwest is a region that needs to be explored and I trust Chun is not just looking at a geographical radius of 500 miles.

Glad Cougar

yeah that list Theo had was a joke for the most part. Heres my thoughts on candidates. Mark Fox; Leon Rice; Tim Miles; TJ Otzelberger; thad Matta

I saw a couple of names on another site that make a lot of sense to me. Justin Hutson from Fresno State and Darian Devries from Drake. Both are defensive oriented--Hutson assisted under Steve Fischer at SDSU and Devries currently employs a familiar name to pack-line defender enthusiasts, Matt Woodley. Possibly they would both be interested in coming to Pullman. Devries is also adept at utilizing the grad-transfer rules to his benefit.

Legans has done a nice job this year - EWU is rolling right now, something like 7-2 in their last nine games despite losing a couple starters to injury. EWU in the Big Sky title game tonight vs. Dequire and Montana (again). And he may eventually prove to be a hot commodity but there's still remants of Hayford's systems and players factoring in so he hasn't done it on his own yet.

Lots of times (business, sports), you don't want to be the guy directly AFTER a cluster. You want to be the guy after the guy who comes in to clean up the mess.

Shontay may be that guy if Chun's hire doesn't pan out. And by then he'll have another 3 years under his belt.

Theo usually produces better than that. I am 99% certain the next coach is NOT on that list.

Quite honestly, I hope Chun goes outside the region. It's 50/50 on whether you get a Bennett/Raveling score or an Eastman/Graham/Kent debacle.

And we know how the last two hires out of Oregon have worked out so skip that....

The "debacle" list is getting longer.
