Yet the media pundits in the area have it out for him...
I often wondered why this was the case from the beginning and then I realized how much of an obnoxious old guard we have in those positions. In a lot of ways they were part of the problem in hurting the program over the years.
Jim Moore is a drunken emotional clown who basically didn't use his brain before he opened his mouth.
Bud Withers for whatever reason was a self hating coug. I think it was mostly because he worked in Seattle so he tried to pander to the Huskies and not come off as a homer, but in reality he looked for any way he could to try and stick it to Leach.
Jim Walden was a loudmouth washed up has been who could be funny at times, but really was more obnoxious than insightful. His "professional opinion" from a guy that posted a .384 win rate as a HC should never have been taken seriously or given a megaphone.
Blanchette always has an axe to grind and basically writes mostly negative stuff because he's just an overall negative person.
Moore is basically fading away, Withers is retired, Walden still has a means to get a soundbite in but nothing more than the ramblings of an old has been coach, and Blanchette will always be writing his negative pieces.
So most of the old guard will be gone, and it is going to be for the better. I always felt like they were the balcony guys from the Muppets except they weren't funny. (Except Walden on occasion)
It was even bad under Wulff, but they kept propping him up which was even more ludicrous. If they went after Wulff like they did Leach to start Wulff wouldn't have even have had a 3rd season.
There will be a lot of younger guys coming in that honestly are going to be better. There's the new guy from IMG, Jacob Thorpe, etc. Ian Furness is better... just better upgrades all around in media, and that will bode well for Leach and WSU future coaches.
The main thing is that Leach limits their access. They don't like that because they have to work harder.
