Well good for Chun, donning his cheerleader outfit. Shulz too. CEK of course. And I hope we do get a big crowd for the mutts, and better crowd for all 5 remaining home games.

But here's the thing. I don't think WSU fans like Ernie Kent. I don't like him. He comes off like part slick hustler, part evangelist. He was no favorite of ours when he was a Duck. I don't care to watch his teams play. Sorry players.

Now Dick Bennett, he was likable. He doubled attendance his first year just by who he was and what he represented and projected. And yeah we won a few more games too, but not that many. But people liked him, and they liked Tony. Bone seemed to be sort of liked. CEK is not liked. He was not liked when he got here, and nothing has changed. Sure if we were 22-3 we would get more fans. But that is what it would take. Just my opinion.

I personally did not like the Bennetts probably as much as they disliked Pullman sorry Bennett fans. The Bennetts were manipulators who used fans and the Pullman student body and Community. Just my opinion Any way the game against the mutts will be a tough one. The mutts have road wins against Oregon 81-56.OSU 79=69.Utah 69-53 and Arizona 67-60and the cougs at home 85-67.

I like Ernie. He's just not a very good basketball coach.

Leave it to El to love on Mr. .381 winning percentage and bad mouth the only rays of sunshine Cougar basketball has had in 30 years.

I dont go to watch the coach, I go to watch the players. If we can keep playing like we did last weekend it shows me something

That's what's called a non-sequiter.

Did someone say they went to watch the coach? Maybe I missed that.

The only Wazzu coach I ever went to watch was the incredible George Raveling. He was a showman and a coach....which I mean as a compliment.

There have been a few coaches I didn't really like who also ran some pretty horrid programs but it's still "us" whether I like or don't like the coach. I still watch regardless.

I understand. I also think that the players deserve a guy who can and will coach...instead of rolling the ball out for them to play ratball. I am very pro-player...but the guys making >$1M should be held to a very high standard. That is a lot of money.

Wow. You must not have ever met Dick Bennett. I did, multiple times. He liked Pullman just fine. And he hung around Pullman after Tony took over. Great man. Tony did not live up to his 5 pillars of whatever, but I hardly think that bringing WSU back from the dead and taking us to the Sweet 16 qualifies as using the fans or community. That is some serious and strange spin there. We should have hired an assistant and kept Bennett Ball alive.

Memory lane.

Another one - almost eerie similarity. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...C00398377DED82AC36D5C00398377DED8&FORM=VDQVAP

George was worth the price of admission for sure. When he would stand up and raise his arms and the fans would rise up and fill Beasley with noise - that was something. And back then the students had fully half or more of the seats. Those were the days.

That's true for Kelvin also. You could go to Beasley and be entertained by either of those men whether there was a basketball game or not.

Yes...I recall watching how long it would take for him to rip his sports jacket off. Usually, not very long.

I liked the way his teams played. Gritty, tough, relentless. In that way, like Bennett ball.

No question, Dick and Tony were the best hoops coaches ever at WSU. In my opinion Kent, for a career, is a better coach than Raveling was

Ernie does have those 2 Elite 8's, but as far as WSU goes and that's all I care about. Rav was 167–136 overall 76–66 league. Ernie is 56–91 (.381) 20–62 (.244). So as far as WSU goes Rav is heads and shoulders above Ernie. And that includes a coach who was a brand-new Head Coach learning as he was going along as contrasted to a career that was after being fired.

Dont disagree as far as WSU goes but for a career its not just Ernies eiite 8s. Rav was largely forgettable at Iowa ( borderline forced out ), and did nothing outstanding at USC. Also I sat behind the bench of too many of Ravs games to respect him as a coach. Having said all that Rav was necessary at WSU because he could recruit, which at the end of the day is 80% of coaching

Hmmm....interesting. What does that mean?

Assisted @ Cougar Cage Camp and Raveling was The Master of Ceremonies nightly whether we were @ The Station or Ram.
Great stories, great fun, the best summers of my life.
Coug basketball was an event with Raveling in the late 70’s / early 80’s.

My Senior year, was right before Dick B's 1st year and he came and spoke to one of my classes (Sport Mgmt. Major) and when he left the room that day, you could hear a pin drop, and personally I was ready to take a bullet for that guy--to this day I couldn't believe he couldn't recruit better talent (maybe he chose not to because of his system) because he was that captivating.

Nothing degrading, just observing things like yelling and waving his arms at guys to stay calm during a timeout in crunch time. Also his offense consisted of passing the ball around until they could force it in to Poudakis, or they turned it over. It wad 5 years before he recruited anyone with a jumper other than Big Steve

Before my time a bit but it seems wise to try to get Puidokas as many shots as possible.

Agreed, but when the D knows you wont go inside out the sagging double teams pretty much limit the ability to get the ball inside in the half court. Rav made a comment his first year that he expected to get 75% of his offense off the fast break. Too many games where our offense was totally helpless until Collins Kelly and House came on board.

Fixed your last post - I think you are talking about EK?

Also CEK's offense consists of passing the ball around until they can force it in to Franks, or they turn it over.

Just sayin'. And Rav still has fond memories of WSU.

Big difference. Franks seldom sets up in a low post. Poudakis onky shot from outside when he came down as a trailer. Also no shot clock back then so Rav could spend more time passing it around the perimeter. I dont disagree that our half court ball movement was pathetic in a couple of losses this year, but the last couple of games it has been better than than anything Rav ran until Collins came along
