Hawks looked like straight garbage for most of the game.

Yup. Probably didn't deserve to win but, in the words of William Munny, "deserves got nothing to do with it."

Honestly, neither team "deserved" to win the game. The Packers got 5 turnovers, several of which were in scoring position already. Yet, all their offense could do is come up with is 5 FG's and 1 TD. They could have easily put the game away, but they didn't.

The Seahawks earned this victory by outscoring the Packers 28-6 after the break.

I'm reminded of the Bill Walsh 49rs' with Montana at QB. "Man, that Montana guy is so lucky!!". Less we knew about football and how the great ones are never really out of a game within 21 points or so.

I gotta share this.

Neither of my kids went to WSU (where their parents met). They grew up in CA. Their dad is a Coug fanatic, however, and they know all things that the sons of a Coug should know. They were both back home this weekend for my birthday dinner.

The older one is a big 49'er fan, and as a result doesn't have a lot of use for Pete Carroll. As we watched the Seahawks/GB game, there was some rivalry.

While it was still 19-7, and time running out, he made some comment about the game being essentially over. I said, "what about the miracle comeback?". He then told me I had been watching too many Cougar games (this year's Utah game and the previous AC come to mind). I told him that the fat lady had not yet sung.

The rest is history.

Too many Cougar games, indeed!!!

Beautiful, just beautiful. By the way, did you happen to see any of the interview that new 49er coach Jim Tomsula did? He looked like he belonged in an old Saturday Night Live football skit with Chris Farley and George Wendt. He was a buffoon. The 49ers are in good hands

Question. Will ESPN spend the next two weeks...

Coronating Brady as the greatest QB ever, and the Seahawks the speed bump to be flattened on his way to eternal glory?

In other words, will ESPN learn anything from last year?

I hope so. This team only knows how to be the underdog--they look lost when they're expected to win.

This was as abysmal a game on offense as I've seen them play in years and years. 4 targets to Kearse go for INTs, a combination of QB decisions and poor hands by Kearse. And can we never take it out of the end zone again this year? The net-net of our return game is "disaster."

A lot of people are saying "the team played badly," but for the D to only give up 22 points on all the Packers' normal drives PLUS 5 turnovers is unbelievable--it works out to letting in only 1.7 points per drive.

Re: NFC karma

Detroit gets jobbed late by the refs and loses to Dallas, but then...

Dallas gets their hearts broken late vs. Green Bay, but then....

Green Bay gets their hearts ripped out in Seattle, and then...

???

'90, I missed that interview. I got to go to Levi for a game this year and the '49ers are my "california team", though, so I'll try to catch up with it.

Chip, the Seattle D was unbelievable, as you point out. Good thing Seattle has a run game. I think they need to spend their first two draft picks this year on receivers. When Kearse, an inconsistent performer at best, is their top receiver, you know they are in trouble.

Patrol, what a great Karma stream. I have several friends I need to share that with. Hope you don't mind being plagiarized…?

Wow. Green Bay's collapse was monumental. Reminded me of WSU' stunner with Colorado State.

Thousands of fans leave early and miss the end of the game, they try to get back in but gates are locked behind them on the way out.

This is one thing I never have understood, you spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars for a ticket. It's the NFC championship game, only 2 cities an the United States host conference championship games each year. Your team has a history of comebacks and close finishes, and it maybe years before you see another conference championship in Seattle.

And yet with all of this you decided to leave early, for what? To beat the traffic? it's 4 in the afternoon, who cares about sitting in traffic, it's the NFC championship.

I really don't get, and don't call yourself a 12th man or a 12, you don't deserve the title. And take off that Seahawk jersey while you're at it.

I think the people leaving has been overstated a bit... when you look at Levi clearing out when the Niners are losing, you see pictures everywhere of huge empty swaths in the 3rd quarter. That's bad. I haven't seen anything coming out other than verbal reports of Seahawks fans leaving. I don't doubt it happened, but I kind of doubt it cleared out to the degree being claimed. When you're on top, everyone wants to take you down a peg.

That said, there are real differences even between this year and last. I don't live in Seattle anymore but I was in town for the Rams game. Even though that game was for the #1 seed, it was still a Rams team which once again had nothing to play for--usually not a HUGE draw, and you're not competing for tickets with ANY Rams fans. But once we went up in the 2nd half, I started seeing Seahawks fans trickling out of the stadium trying to beat the traffic. Couldn't believe it.

The longer the team is successful, the more fairweathers you attract. Unfortunately the redblooded fans, who are often lifetimers plying a blue-collar/service trade which makes games barely affordable as it is, are being priced out of the games. I go to any game within 500 miles of me (been to 2 this year), but couldn't afford $300+ apiece for nosebleeds at that dreck of a Rams game. I hung out at the bars on King Street instead. And the people who could afford nosebleeds or better were streaming out of the game with plenty of time left once it appeared to be decided.

It's pretty maddening to be on the outside looking in while all the yups spend their time at the craft beer counter during the game, and then try to beat the traffic in the 3rd. Then again, I guess that's one of the vagaries of being successful--having to deal with fans who have the freedom to choose how much (or in this case, how little) of a fan they want to be.

From what I have heard, the fans leaving was overrated. People that were there said if anyone left, it was not noticeable. I heard it again and again from listening to the radio yesterday. Plus, late in the game watching from my living room, the crowd was loud. When Kearse made the winning catch, the ground under the stadium shook (the news showed the seismograph).

Yeah, the story about people leaving was so overrated. But hey, haters are going to hate.

Receivers definitely needs to be a focus, particularly if Lynch walks.

But even more work needs to be put in on the OL. That line is Paul Wulff bad. Britt's rookie year has been a disaster, and Okung--who was so great last year--and Carpenter have been off for most of the season. Carp has to be done--this was his proving year and Football Outsiders ranks him in the Bottom Third for starting guards. Even the usually reliable Unger has been having some seriously bad snaps, but he's still the one piece of the OL that I think is above reproach.

If you can build up a GB- or Dallas-type OL, it won't matter who's toting the rock or catching it--the RB will have such a big gap and RW will have so much time to throw/run, we'll be impossible to stop.

So I'd like to see them take at least 1 big time receiver (if only we had Kelvin Benjamin or Beckham), maybe a TE and a CB, and spend all your other chips on OL.

You actually bring up a good point. We have a family friend who was a season ticket holder since the day the Kingdome opened...and she was a single mom working in the restaurant biz.

You can see where I'm going with this.

She, as well as many other longtime fans are priced out...and now you have the new fans that were nowhere to be found a few yrs ago which is why I can't stand this home of the 12th man nonsense...it's more like the home of the 12th bandwagon.

I really try to like the Seahawks...but their fans make it very difficult. They are exactly like Oregon fans...and no about as much about the game of football.

Here is a good article on just how bad the Seahawks fans are...and again, I'm not reffering to the lifers...just the recent bandwagoners who actually are probably the majority now as the lifers watch the games from home for reasons stated above.

Every single fan base has bandwagon fans. You know what I think? Good. Doesn't bother me at all. Why does anyone really care? It is to belittle them. Nobody was born a fan. There was a unique date for every single one of us that became a Cougar fan, Mariner fan, Seahawk fan, or whatever team someone follows. If it occurs when a team is winning, good. If it occurs because you live 10 miles from the stadium, fine. Whatever the reason everyone has is fine.

Besides, the Seahawks have a long history of supporting the team. The only time that it didn't was because owner Ken Behring moved the team. Nobody wanted to support him.

You want to know what fan base knows about football? Go to each teams SB Nation site and read. You will see that the Seahawks really are among the most intelligent and understand football better than most fan bases, if not the being the best.

I get a chuckle out of your statement Seahawks fans know the most about football. I don't need to go to a msg board. I run into them every day!

Then I have no idea where you are hanging out, because I do talk to many intelligent Seahawk fans. You are just bitching like you always do. Go to Fieldgulls.com or not. Go to Hawkblogger.com or not. Stay uninformed. Your choice, but don't tell me that the Seahawks have a dumb fanbase. It is wrong.

Maybe I should just make a blanket statement like you and say that Cleveland (who did lose their team to Baltimore), NO, KC, Washington, NE are terrible fans without backing it up in any way, it is what you do.

Sorry...don't have all day to go to other msg boards that I don't care about. This is the only one I visit. As to my point about Seahawks having a dumb fan base, it is pretty well known.(since many of them are bandwagoners) Feel free to read the comments in the link provided above.

You make me laugh. Again throwing out a statement without backing it up. There is nothing, NOTHING, NOTHING wrong with being a bandwagoner. Does not bother me at all. If the Cougars start to win and more people begin to like them, am I supposed to say no, you cannot be a fan? That is dumb.

Agreed. Money Lynch is either back in Seattle (hoping...PAY THE MAN), Oakland (hometown...and they need a RB) or retired (back issues). They missed Richardson's speed to just open up the field a little bit.

Sorry 90..most of my experiences in life, including those with Seahwaks fans happen outside of the interwebs...so I am unable to provide a link to those conversations and experiences.

This is not just a perception shared by me.

My point about bandwagon fans are that they are the ones causing most of the issues if you would read the article I linked to.

Looking at the Seattle Times article that Sponge linked regarding fan behavior at Seahawk games…the LA Dodgers may be a parallel situation in some ways. The Dodger fan environment took a turn of for the worse a few years ago, culminating with a SF Giants fan being brain damaged in the parking lot about 2 years ago. That caused an overdue but needed response. Security was significantly enhanced. Poor behavior resulted in ejection (not just from the ballpark; the miscreants are escorted from the team property, which includes the surrounding parking lots). "Raider-fan-behavior" is not tolerated.

It took a big part of a year, but the ballpark is back to being much more like the days of old. The most tense moments are still when the arch rival Giants are in town, but the situation has ratcheted back down to where knuckleheads keep their mouths mostly shut and their hands to themselves. But it took a big commitment in terms of personnel to get it under control.

I wonder who has to get brain damage for the same thing to happen in liberal Seattle?

The "bandwagon" claim is what fans of teams that are out of it say to make themselves feel better about being out of it. This time last year, being an eastern Washington school, I recall a few Broncos fans coming out of the woodwork at WW. It was sour grapes before and after, but they weren't using the bandwagon thing yet.

Literally every team has bandwagon fans. Nobody is immune. Every team that is going on a run has more bandwagon fans than just about anyone at that moment. There is no shame in it--people are free to come and go as they please provided they pay for their tickets and their cable bill. Bandwagon fans who come into the fold during the good years are the inspiration for the next 3 generations of offspring to become fans of that team. Texas is all HS football--you think they become the massive fan base they are today without the bandwagoners who showed up when they were on a run in the 90s? Or the Steelers in the 70s and 2000s? Or the Patriots in the 2000s?

The real enemy we all need to rally around are the Oregonians (Washington's pants) who think the Seahawks and the Mariners are their teams. Let's make a pact--we don't talk about the Blazers, you don't talk about our teams. Canadians, however, are welcome to some degree.

So NE didn't "turn over" any of their fan base when they started winning SBs? All their season ticket holders are 30 year season ticket holders?

Sponge, I agree with you. I've often been asked why I like college football and detest pro football. It's simple. Aside from the fact that the NFL teams are predictable and boring, it's the fans. Both have drunk fans. The difference is that I would rather see and drunk, immature college kid making a fool out of himself, than a drunk, immature, overweight loser, working at Walmart making a fool out of himself.
