It is a great story all around . It is like the football Gods remind us that it is about the school and the team and that no one person is so important . It shows us life goes on in hardest of circumstances. It shows us sometimes the adults in the rooms and the leaders are 18-22 year old men/boys. And it showed us this year about perseverance . It could have been a dumpster fire like UW but it wasn’t. To say these kids epitomize what it is to be a Coug is a vast understatement .

Dickert deserves the shot . He took a defensive line who has a DT that looks like the size of Wisconsin’s RB playing against 300 pounders. He helped Rodgers become an effective linebacker .He helped a walk-on in marsh play very well this year. Took George Hicks who was never going to play at corner and move him to safety . It all worked .

Most important can you think of a series where his players weren’t in the “screen” to make a play. They seemed to be in position . The defensive backfield is 100% better than it was in in the past.

He really hasn’t given Chun much of a choice . And the truth is if we get Tedford for example , who says he is going to recruit better . Think of this, at his time at cal in 10 years he had Rodgers a JC transfer, Longshore, Reilly and Zac Maynard. Price in a 10 year stretch had Bledsoe, Leaf and Gesser.

I know it looks like the Big Sky class but even Turd One saw talent in Fullingtin, Dahl, Cooper , Long, Pole etc. Some of them not exactly household names .

I think Dickert is a grinder and very organized . I think that will help him in recruiting . You could bring in Jay Norvel, Tedford, Chip Kelley and not sure recruiting results will be all that different.

Also it must be said that Dickert took the best of Leach abs tapped into that culture. Leach ground into these kids about determination and rising above a bad play.

And he eliminated the bad… the inability to see the Apple Cup for what it was and eliminated the ego that was involved in proofing he was smarter than Lake . It must be said what made a 3-8 work was the nose tackle . There was no Shelton Vea or even Gaines out there. But that said having a smaller line gap between guard and center made it easier to double team and stop penetration from the guy closest to the QB .

The hard part is moving forward . They do need recruiters. Brian Smith called a great game … but he takes up a position normally associated with a recruiter . So who goes to California and recruits? Maybe because Dickert coaches a position he can bring in an extra paid assistant for that side of the ball to recruit and be the rb coach and make Smith just the OC.

And did Donovan Ollie step up or what?
