Once again ,the cougs are in a game they never win. Two recruiting prospects,George Wilson WR,and Muffi Hunt ,DE ,will play the game this Wednesday.Do the cougs finally win one ? Muffi Hunt is LDS and probably will take his Mission right after his senior year in HS. George Wilson will be in the 2015 prospects. what say Ye?

we won't prevail with either one, and guy that are taking a mission have never gotten me fired up, it seems like they don't pan out, for us anyway

I'd say the odds are slim that either even have a WSU offer right now. Wilson maybe. Hunt, highly doubtful.

Well Wilson says that he is going to choose between WSU,Utah and Boise State He had previously committed to Utah and i think he stays with them.. Hunt has WSU in his top three and will choose at 11:00 AM on NSD.. I sometimes wonder what would happen if a recruit put on a hat only to the offer had been with drawn. Hunt may indeed still have one because he does not plan to play until two year Mission is fulfilled.

Only if it is a hard hat...and players who want the show of

putting on the hat are not hard hat people. WSU needs players who will get down and dirty, and be committed to tons of hard work.

don't all teams need this?

To some degree...but when we have had the record we have had

since 2003 you need people extra committed, willing to do whatever it takes to get over the hump.

He's essentially a class of '17 recruit, so not sure what reason WSU would have to pull his offer at this point.

Why keep it on the table?

Why not? What does WSU gain by pulling the kids offer?

I'll be honest, if I could pick, I'd say him going on his mission is a positive. He's "committed" to WSU, so he's basically taking a RS, only it's 2 years. He gets to lift, he gets to mature. So by his 5th year, he'll could be, by most standards, 25 years old his senior year. Maturity is a huge plus and missions allow for that.

My only question regarding this scenario, can he take a RS once he enrolls? Lets say he doesn't hit the weights as much as the coaches want him to. We don't have an immediate need for him on the field. Can he take another year for RS?

He plans to go on his mission prior to enrolling. So, I don't believe he signs anything, and he is recruitable until he signs in 2017. It's essentially like getting a commitment from a sophomore in high school.

So yes, he can still RS.

Ah. See, I thought they still signed the LOI (edit) now, not when they get done with the mission. That changes things… a bit.

A spot that can be filled by a guy that will actually be here for the next two years. WSU is free to recruit Hunt when he returns from his mission.

If he doesn't enroll (which he won't if he plans on going on his mission), then his NLI is void and he's a recruitable athlete again, and free to sign anywhere after he returns from his mission. That's how BYU gets all the guys after they go on their missions.

If he's not going to enroll, then he's not going to take up a spot. I don't believe WSU would even provide him an LOI, or FAA to sign.

Pulling his offer would be nothing more than symbolic.

Perhaps we're splitting hairs, but I would say the offer has been pulled if WSU is not providing him a LOI or FAA to sign.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at. There's a difference between offering a scholarship and sending an LOI/FAA. LOIs & FAAs are only valid for a year, and this kid doesn't plan to enroll for 2 years. So, what would be the point of sending him an LOI?

If he doesn't have any paperwork to sign, does he really have an offer?

By that argument then no one actually has an "offer" for the entire recruitment process until they receive their LOI to sign.

So, there are really no offers out to any 2016 recruits right now?

If Hunt signs an NLI and qualifies for fall admission but defers enrollment to go on a mission, his NLI remains effective for one year. It would become null and void if he doesn't enroll the subsequent fall. Since this is a two-year mission, anyone can recruit him once the year expires. It's a risk any school takes if they recruit prospects who opt to go on church missions, but it protects a school (and a student-athlete) if a mission is cut short and the prospect enrolls.
I doubt anyone will send him the paperwork, however. Why waste one of your 25 slots for fall enrollment if he's not going to set foot on campus for more than two years? It's bad enough schools lose a slot in signing guys who fail to qualify, but that's a new rule the Stanfords of the world pushed through to punish anyone who recruits guys on the academic bubble.

NLI "null and void" provisions

Fab...but he will never really have an offer if they don't send

him an agreement to sign. Do you think Utah will send a piece fo paperwork to sign?

What would they send him? They can't send an FAA that's valid for 2 years. So, what would be the point?

And he has an "offer", just as any class of '16 or '17 recruit has an "offer".

Your argument seems to be that no scholarship offers are made unless an LOI/FAA is sent. So, no offers exist outside of the day before signing day (or whenever the recruits receive their LOIs from the school)?

Schools still send out written scholarship offers, and still make verbal scholarship offers to recruits. That would, essentially, be what Mufi Hunt has from WSU. He's basically a class of '17 recruit, as that is when he will sign and enroll.

So Hunt will not be given a letter to sign by WSU...will

Utah? I am not saying there was not an offer. But when he flips on his hat, why should he flip on one that there is really no offer and acceptance. Why not put on a USC hat since it is just for show anyway?

Re: So Hunt will not be given a letter to sign by WSU...will

Well, maybe they will. Seems kind if stupid to use one of your LOIs on a guy who is not going to be a member of your team and is going to be recruitable again next Feb. My guess is his announcement is done for ceremony & nothing else. You're only a senior in high school once.

The Hat Game will be played not only by Hunt and Wilson but also by Fehoko, Moi and King. I do not know if they will use hats but essentially they are each choosing from several different schools on NSD.

So that's what those Mormons are up to on those "missions"

No wonder BYU is always so stacked with those huge white guys.
