I was surprised to find out that some people don't know that when someone says, "Bless your heart".....it means "F You".


I guess it depends where you are from. Maybe in some places, "Bless your heart" is snarky. It wasn't in the parts of E WA, OK or TX in which I lived. Of course when you said it and meant it, the tone of your voice made it clear that it was sincere. I've known a lot of folks who meant it as a sincere gesture.

I always took it to mean, "we know you mean well, but you're a dumbass."

I'm sure that there are places where it isn't an insult....but in general, it's use that I've seen in the past 10 years has been somewhere between dgibbons comment and mine. I can't remember the last time where it was said in a positive way.

Sure. It depends on how it's meant as you've said.
