This One Might Really Bite The Cougs

On the other hand, WSU has always had trouble with depth. A player on the bench is more likely to put his name in the portal for playing time. The best WSU players start, and would be less likely to want to transfer.

The conference was only hurting itself with the rule. Players were transferring anyway. They just had no choice but to leave the conference if they wanted to play. Now, there is a chance they may stay.

It will hurt WSU a LOT, when its a Doba, Wulf, Len Stevens, Eastman, Graham, Bone, type program.

It will hurt a lot LESS, when its a Price, Leach, Erickson, Raveling, Sampson, Tony Bennet, Smith type program at WSU.

But whether it hurts LESS or a LOT its still going to hurt.

But even if it hurts, the conference Kind of had to do it because:

1. The. UNITED group athletes. In addition to the money, they wanted more say. This at least gives them more say, power to change their situation, while lessening their ability, desire to STRIKE, SIT OUT, Rebel, etc.

2. One of the reasons(NOT THE ONLY REASON AND NOT EVEN THE MAIN REASON)why ELITE Talent leaves the Pac 12, gpes to other conferences, is because they know they have a harder time transfering within the Pac 12 then other conferences have of transfering within the conference.

3. Also some of this can even be good for WSU:

A.USC, UCLA 4/5 stars on the bench that want to goto WSU, etc, can do so easier.

B. A 4 or 5 star might be willing to goto WSU(Like a QB, WR, RB, CB, etc, if they know that they can transfer more easily to USC, etc.

I know some might say: Well altho that good at first, isnt that bad if a 5 star comes to WSU, then transfers to USC?

Yes and No.

Its easy to see the bad. But the good is that:

1. If the 5 star comes to WSU because he can transfer to USC, altho that might be what got them to WSU, they may choose to stay at WSU as a 5 star.

2. Even if get that 5 star for 1,2 years before they goto USC, thats still 2 years that the 5 star can help WSU win a lot of games.

To those who say Why would the 5 star goto WSU then transfer to USC, when they could go directly to USC first?

Well what if they are a lower end 5 star, combined with lets say they are a WR, and lets say there are 15 high end 5 star WR's at USC already. Well if that 5 star WR goes to USC to start, he would never get playing time. But if he goes to WSU, STARTS at WSU for 1,2 years and gets 1000 yards 10 TD's, then if he transfers to USC(He may decide to stay), he would then get a lot of playing time.

But wont this turn WSU into a FARM, minor league team?

WSU is going to become a FARM, Minor League Team, because of the Transfer Portal, and because of what the Pac 12 did today.

You either EMBRACE IT by WSU becoming a VERY GOOD WINNING FARM, Minor League team, or you dont accept it, ignore it, dont prepare for this, dont adapt and thus, then be a bad, LOSING Farm, Minor League Team.

Whether WSU likes it or not, its going to become a Minor League team, at least temporarily at minimum, whether WSU is a winning or losing Minor League Team.

The way WSU becomes a Winning Minor League Team, is they get, develop a good coach, recruiter. TBD if that is Rolo. Then that good recruiter at WSU uses the Transfer Portal, and what I talked about above to get, develop good 3,4,5 star recruits. This has to be done faster, because a players will leave WSU faster. WSU, the coach, will have to reload, rebuild more often

Smith, and the bball program will deal with this just fine.

Rolo TBD.

Smith's highest finish in the Pac 12 is 10th.
Smith's highest finish in the WCC was 4th.
Smith's highest finish in the Ivy League was 3rd.

That is a Robert Goulet & Wayne Newton like resume

The AAU-ization of college sports continue.

It will be cool when players swap teams each weekend. Just like travel ball.
Nike I Ball has taken over making very good nw programs like nw blazers and Spokane stars a step or two below .

I met a mom in Maui whose daughter plays on Jason kids elite program . She was telling me how great a program it is they pay nothing . No membership fees and zero travel expense . She thought Jason picked that up. I asked her what the next level non countrywide team pays . Something like 2k. I looked at her and told her that is how the elite team is funded .

AAU is ruining hoops and not doing middle level kids any favors teaching them not to ride out the hard times but transfer.

This is simply the conference wanting to keep as much talent on the WC as possible.

Recruit well, win games, and this won't matter.

It will Matter, but it will Matter a LOT LESS, when, if recruit well, win a lot, and it will matter more if recruit badly, win less, ESPECIALLY at the now WSU PAC 12 MINOR LEAGUE FARM TEAM(Minor League Farm Feeder Team, to USC, UCLA, Texas, Oklahoma, etc)

It just means that WSU coaches will have to FASTER RECRUIT FASTER, BETTER, and FASTLY DEVELOP FASTER, BETTER, and Reload, Rebuild more often, and do a better job at reloading, Rebuilding in a SHORTER, FASTER, QUICKER, BETTER AMOUNT OF TIME.

Gone, will be the 4,5,6 year PLANS, rebuilds. Gone will be taking 3,4,5,6 years to develop players. That because if it takes 4,5,6 years, that wont happen, because players, recruits will arrive year 1, and be gone year 2,3, because of Transfer Portal, and making it easy to transfer within conference, higher visibility, etc.

To those who say WSU cant do it in 2,3 years, and that WSU cant reload, rebuild fast, and that it take WSU 3,4,5,6 years to reload, Rebuild: LEACH, SMITH have DESTROYED THAT. And if true, that it takes 3 to 7 years(It doesnt), then WSU is DOOMED(It's Not). It is what it is. Either Adapt, Survive, etc(Leach, Smith), or dont, and take 3 to 7 years, and get a lot of your good players taken by Pac 12 Teams, and because of that lose, get fired, until if replaced by a Leach or a Smith.

Wow Mik. It was four years before Leach had a winning season. In 19 he was 3-6 in conference . How many games above 500 was leach and how many games above .500 in conference was he ?

Wow Mik. It was four years before Leach had a winning season. In 19 he was 3-6 in conference . How many games above 500 was leach and how many games above .500 in conference was he ?

And Leach Took over a ULTIMATE EXTREME DUMPSTER FIRE.

If it had been Leach taking over for Doba, instead of Wulf, or if it had been Leach taking over for Walden(If he were to Hop in a time machine), instead of Erickson, Leach would have only taken 1,2,3 years, instead of 4,5 years. Also even tho it was 6-6, and not a OFFICIAL winning season, by going 6-6, and going to a Bowl, and getting his guys, etc, Leach had PRACTICALLY, PRETTY MUCH completed the Rebuild, set the Foundation, because if he hadnt, the other 6-6, bowl game, 2 years later, and the 4 straight 8,9+ win + bowl years, wouldnt have happened.

Plus it only took Leach 1,2 years to get it done at Texas Tech, to get the 10 STRAIGHT BOWL YEARS at Texas Tech. And Texas Tech and WSU are about comparable.

Now if Wulf had coached at Texas Tech, and had been fired at Texas Tech, and then if Leach had then taken over for, replaced Wulf at Texas Tech, then it probably would have taken longer, and about the same amount of time it took at WSU.

And Speaking of Erickson it only took him, 1,2 years at WSU.

As long as the coach is a Price, Erickson, Leach, Riley, Smith, etc, COMBINED with as long as the ex coach was NOT. Wulf type, and as long as the ex coach was AT LEAST a Doba or better to another Erickson, Price, etc, a Top coach like a Erickson, Price, Leach, Riley, Smith, etc, should be able to have it take about 1,2,3 years, and then have to Reload, Rebuild, 1,2,3 years later, then have that Reload, Rebuild, only take 1,2,3 years.

But even if I am wrong, and I am not wrong here, but even if I were wrong, WSU is going to become a FARM team, that will have to get it done in 1,2,3 years, and Reload, Rebuild, after only 1,2,3 years, and then have that only take another 1,2,3 years. Because if that is not done, not doable, etc, then WSU is DOOMED to be a BAD FARM TEAM

WSU either ADAPTS, HIRES Coaches that can do this, and becomes a GOOD Farm team, or it doesnt and becomes a BAD FARM team. But good or bad, WSU is going to be a Good or Bad FARM TEAM.

I could see any lower half PAC team in a given year (Wazzu or any other) who had what the players believed was a so-so team for the coming year losing a star or two to a team likely to be contending for a championship. That situation would hurt WSU and any other lower half team.

On the flip side, I could see guys who are not getting any real PT transferring from a contender to a lower half team so they would have a better shot at PT, especially if the team to where they were transferring had a specific need for someone at their position.

How much of which situation occurs will probably depend heavily on team chemistry and the players opinion of the coaching staff's effectiveness.

If too much of the former situation transpires, there will probably have to be some additional regulations. No conference can afford to eat its young. If a lot of the latter transpires, it will probably not cause a lot of angst.

Did you all hear about the coach at Texas St. (I think that school) who has said he wont be recruiting high school players anymore, he will fill his roster via transfer portal going forward. Crazy times.

Giving up 63 to a team that had scored in the 30’s once , meant there was a lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball that rivaled the 2011/2012 dumpster fire
