Says all you need to know about the state of our conference.

(really should be 2 as Herbert is not round 1 material, just a product of the Oregon hype machine)

The decline in the Pac-12 continues. What has happened to this conference since 2005 is scary. We are now the SWC and Big East on major college football. The ADs and presidents decision to build, while going cheap on coaches, combined with the under performing TV contract/decline in fan interest out west has made the P12 football irrelevant, and there isn't an easy answers.

None of these kids are maulers or hitters or tough guys. None of them look like theyve done the work. They teams that do have a few guys, who is their film against? More lazy kids and coaches?

The PAC 12 is where it is and the SEC is where it is because of 1 glaring reason. “Want to.”

You can talk about location to more athletes or history or all kinds of things.

They want it more.

Herbert was a bad reach. Burrow was the only first rounder in this draft at QB, I think. I'm bearish on Tua (I think he's an NFL QB, just not a franchise guy). And Herbert and Love are talent reaches whose production do not match where they were picked.

Love is the current and future business model of the NFL, especially vis a vis Baltimore and Lamar Jackson.

Get a mobile guy for cheap, surround him with some decent talent and a good D, and let him create plays for 3 years before you have to pay him. Its exciting to watch, the players and fans seem to like it, and it allows owners to maximize their money/ profit for 3 years and hopefully ride it to a superbow, and if not you've at least dangled the carrot for the fans to keep them around for the next couple of years.

Through pick 57, there have been more players drafted from Bama (7) than the P12 (6).

Not entirely surprising considering how many of the more highly regarded recruits from the SoCal area opt to play in the SEC. The chickens are coming home to roost four years later.

The best rounds for the conference were round 3, 4, and 6 (5 players chosen from the conference in each of these rounds.)

Utah had 7 total selected
Oregon 4
Cal 3
UCLA 3
OSU 3
USC 2
ASU 2
Stanford 2
Colorado 2
UW 2
WSU 1

Lots of catching up to do overall in the conference. But it could be worse- look at the Big 12

SEC 63 total picks
Big Ten 48 picks
Pac 12 32 picks
ACC 27 picks
Big 12 21 picks
AAC 17 picks

Two from ‘SC—how the mighty have fallen.

Utah really surprised me, I didn’t see 7 picks coming from that roster.

Which of these teams would you say are exceptionally well coached, prepared and developed?

Imo, 0.

Worth bearing in mind variations in conference size. If you control for the Big 12 actually having 10 teams, while the Pac-12 has 12, and the SEC, ACC, and Big 10 have 14 each, the Pac-12 looks a little better and the Big 12 looks significantly better.

The incremental numbers of teams seem small but a 40% difference in the number of schools vis-a-vis 3 other conferences is highly significant, and even the 20% vis-a-vis the Pac-12 is enough to get the Big 12 closer to the same ballpark as the Pac-12.

Should Jacob Eason count as Pac12 or SEC?

He played more games in the SEC.

His girlfriend is from SEC country.

Only his boat and "alleged" party drugs are Pac 12.

Outside of Clemson, the ACC is stinky poo.
