Everyone will be after Stevenson but this guy would take us to the next level quickly in the backcourt. I think he would be a great fit but so will GU, UW, Oregon, etc.

Gotta wonder what happened there. Marshall's been a great coach for a long time and never heard of any issues with players before.

I remember watching Stevenson in high school and when he picked Wichita State I thought it was a good fit. Marshall's a tough coach though and transferring is just what players do these days. According to this tweet we contacted and so did a lot of other programs as you would expect.

Not that I would say no to Erik Stevenson, I wouldnt. But here are WSU's most pressing recruiting needs.

1. A 5, Big.

Yes WSU has Vova, and Agobidi, Kunc, Henson, Chapman, Miller, but Pollard is gone, and:

Only Vova, Kunc, Miller is likely to be able to go, do ok, etc, then there is Henson, Agobidi, Chapman. 1,2 of those 3 will play, be, do ok. 1,2 of those 3 wont. Agobidi is probably the only 1 of the 3 that would play, be, do ok.

That means there are 2 starting bigs, 1,2 off the bench. 3,4 bigs that can start, come off the bench is THIN, 4,5 is Moderate.

WSU needs 1 more Big to be sure it has at least 4,5 BIGS that can either produce as starters, an or produce coming off Bench, and to weather, overcome injuries.

Also WSU has plenty of guards.

2. Point Guard. We have all seen what happens when PG/SG/COMBO guard Bonton either goes into turnover mode, an or is injured.

WSU needs a PURE pg to either replace Bonton, or play alongside Bonton, or at least BACK UP Bonton.

3. A 6 ft, 6.5 in HYBRID that a STRETCH 2, a PROTO 3, STRETCH 4, that is INTERCHANGEABLE, that can play the 3,4,2 spots.

This was WSU's number 1 need, because at the time it was thought that Elleby would be drafted in round 1 of NBA draft, leave early.

But since Elleby played his way out of that, and needs 1 more year, and thus will probably stay, not leave, then this type of player can wait until AFTER Elleby, Cannon are gone AFTER next, this coming year, season.

WSU can get 1/2 of the above during this recruiting year cycle.

WSU does not need yet another 2. SG.

WSU already has TJ Bamba, and Jefferson as guards already in this class.

WSU does not need another guard in this class UNLESS, EXCEPT it is a PURE PG, or a HYBRID STRETCH 2/PROTO 3/STRETCH 4, 2,3,4 HYBRID guard.

Now if Stevenson is a PURE PG, or a 2/3/4 Hybrid, then great.

That said, I wouldnt say no to Stevenson, and if Smith is trying to get him, I am sure he Smith has his reasons.

Hopefully there is room for 5 spots in this class, so that if WSU gets Stevenson or another guard, in addition to guards TJ Bamba, and Jefferson, and BIG Agobidi, that WSU would have room for 1 more to get a BIG.

Because this WSU class needs EITHER. 2 Bigs, 2 guards, and 1 PG

Or

2 guards, 1 Big, 1 PG, 1 Hybrid 2,3,4

Similar deal with Stevenson as it was last year with David Jenkins, Jr. (ended up at UNLV). Even if you have other needs he's someone you contact despite all the top programs involved. Where will he end up? Probably Gonzaga or Oregon or the current cluster that is the mutts. Somewhere other than WSU.

We need another big or two but the numbers will likely to work out. We have 1 left to give. A player or players will likely go into the transfer portal by choice or "mutual decision". Elleby likely to opt for the NBA. We are going to be active again this spring.

Add another spot available....as mentioned on Brand X, Daron Henson is entering the transfer portal. No surprise, hope he finds a spot that gives him a lot of minutes. Seems like a real good kid.

Glad Cougar

Good kid but bad fit. Hope he lands somewhere that can use that 3.

Yep, good kid, bad fit, but WSU needs his scholly to get either a 5, Big, or at least a 6 ft 7 1/4 in Hybrid, stretch, Proto 4, Stretch, Proto 3, Stretch 2, flexible, interchangeable, versatile, semi complete package, Sean Elliot, Malik Sealy type, in addition to hopefully getting a PURE PG with the other scholly.

I have a lot of affection for Henson. He didn't get much of a chance, but he played hard when he played. I hope he finds a place that he can start and I hope that he does well.

>“Coach (Gregg Marshall) and I didn’t have a great relationship,” Stevenson said. “Obviously we didn’t mesh. That’s probably the biggest reason why I’m leaving. I’ve got to find a better relationship and a better situation.”

Stevenson said he will take time to consider his options before deciding where to play next. He told Stockrisers.com that he has received interest already from Gonzaga, Memphis, Arizona, Florida, Texas, Creighton, Seton Hall, Xavier, South Carolina, Arkansas, Washington, Oregon State, USC and Utah.<

No mention of Wazzu on that list. I have seen he has a dad (helicopter) who is heavily involved in his sons career. Wichita State now has had 6 players enter the transfer portal. Yikes!

I tend to want to shy away from helicopter dads. I think we already have one tied to the current roster....and that may be one too many.

Glad Cougar

Not only what Glad Cougar said about him having a Helicopter dad, combined with: but since he had problems with a awesome coach like Marshall, he might have problems at WSU, combined with: WSU already having 2 guards in TJ Bamba, Jefferson who are probably at least equal to, if not better then him, Stevenson, combined with: He is probably OVERRATED with having ONLY scored about 11 PPG, combined with: Even tho WSU did offer him, him not naming WSU as one of the ones that offered him: With all that about, against him, EVEN IF HE WERE to be interested in WSU, I probably wouldnt want him to play for WSU.

I just think he would have been a BAD FIT for WSU.

I think its ok to give 2nd Chances, when you have a DUKE type team, and a extra scholly spot to take a shot at him, OR if your a team like WSU that is DESPERATE for a player like Stevenson.

But the thing is WSU is neither a Duke type or DESPERATE for a Stevenson.

WSU can't afford to potentially, maybe missing on a player like Stevenson. To much of a risk, gamble. A risk, gamble that WSU does not need to make with a guard, since WSU has a easier time getting good guards.

Now if Stevenson were a 6 ft 11 in, 249 pound, 5, center that scored 11 points 11 rebounds, then I would want WSU to take the chance because Big Men like that are extremely hard to find, get, etc.

If we can get him that would be a great addition but Arizona is now in the mix doubt we have much of a shot.

Heavy northwest other than us and OSU not making the list. Not all that surprising. Oregon or SDSU would be my guess.

I really liked the overall chemistry from the players this year. Very few instances of even an eye roll toward each other. I still like his talent but some are saying he caused a lot of problems at Wichita State. Will never know whether any of it is true but maybe not the guy to continue to build especially with pops.

Yeah couple of JC';s we are looking at as well. Jovon McClananan a fully qualified one with 3 to play I think appears to be one that are in the know about alonig with Nate.

McClananan's interesting. Full qualifier out of high school but no offers. One of his first highlights in his senior video he takes a charge. A teammate comes over to help him up and McClananan pulls his hand away and yells something at him. Definitely plays with a bit of an edge.

Yup. I guess I have a hard time letting go of someone we never had a chance getting. ;) Another grad transfer with interest from WSU and the rest of the country.

IF this player is either a PURE PG, OR a 6 ft 6 3/4 in HYBRID STRETCH 4, PROTO 3, STRETCH 2, that can play the 4, 3, 2 spots, then WSU would need this kind of player.

Otherwise WSU would not need yet ANOTHER of MANY LOTS OF GUARDS ALREADY IN THIS YEARS RECRUITING CLASS.

Unless something is happening with Jefferson, TJ Bamba, I dont get why WSU is going after SO MANY guards in addition to TJ Bamba, Jefferson, who have already SOLIDLY Committed.

Mattias Markusson is kinda odd. Sat out his senior year and graduated.

Another site said he sat out last year due to the death of his mother. With Dunlap getting fired maybe that drove the grad transfer route? He looks like he would be a good Pollard replacement/compliment to Vova' but just a bunch of interest at this point.
