Is literally exploding. some high quality athletes I hope the Cougs are perusing.

We have a director of transfer recruiting. If we don’t tap in there immediately, he should be fired into the sun.

Highest area of need? My list would go something like this.... RB, LB, OT DT(?) . CB and WR looks like positions where we are reloading.

Definitely running back, safety and DT. Mejia, Pule and Mujahid all coming back would be nice. We should be loaded at edge. One stud linebacker to be paired w Travion Brown would be great. OT is definitely a huge need as well.

Our priortiies should be DT, OL, then fill in the pieces.

We may need to take a QB or offer another HS kid. Ward and JDL will be the only 2 scholarship QBs we have once Cooper leaves.

Rolovich really liked Gabalis at QB. Maybe too much, given that he inexplicably put him in vs. USC when the game was close. Don't know if Dickert thinks the same or if he might plan to put Gabalis on scholarship next year.

Glad Cougar

I would add S to the list of needs.
Exactly. A large fast one. I know the HC can identify a really good linebacker. With depth at online, i don't know if that's a priority unless a really good one falls in their lap.

Jake Haener (Fresno State QB) entered the portal today, it's assumed he's heading back to UW. I think we should poach him. Not necessarily to play him - although I think he'd be a good backup - but just so UW doesn't get him.

Wouldn't mind finding a QB transfer for depth, but I don't see any interesting prospects yet. At any position.

Possible it's just my cynicism showing, but my general evaluation of the players in the portal so far is that they're there because they weren't good enough to crack the 2-deep where they were. A few of them might be too far from home and don't like it. The ones who are solid players but fleeing a coaching or system change, or who have finished a degree and want to play 1-2 more years...those are rare.

Maybe for most but there’s always some solid players and some have reasons other than not being able to crack the two deep. I sure would like to see Tay Martin at WSU still and he has done well on a good OSU roster.

There are only so many guys that are gonna play. In a room full of 4 and 5 star kids guys are gonna sit.

I am waiting for woke culture to hit recruits.

When will they wake the fuc$ up and see that there is no value in standing on the sideline and clapping???

Why would you go to SC and sit for 3 years to maybe be a starter for 2 seasons… 24 games… When you could go somewhere else and play for 3 seasons and go pro??? Or play for 4 years and have 48 games???

Kids are choosing schools for the wrong reasons. When they finally wake up and see how they’ve done nothing to help themselves, only worked to help their school or coaches become millionaires, they enter the portal.

There was a linebacker at Ohio State that got big mad and left during a game. I believe he was a senior. He has spent how many years there??? To be a backup. Who is he mad at? The coaches for telling him he would play OR himself for believing them and pissing away his career on the bench???

Go play where you can PLAY!!!!

End rant.

How could we poach him if his intention is quite obviously to go play for his coach at his former school? He’s starting wherever he goes. About a 100x better chance convincing Huard to come here when we ink our new air raid OC.

Huard made his choice. No crimson for him.

Yeah, just trying to make the point that poaching Haener to be a back-up is more illogical than convincing Huard to come to WSU at this point. Haener is going to UW to help DeBoer start his tenure and play for his old school, and he is going to start.

He just added drama to the drama.

I know a few kids who are always searching for more offers and I just tell them, go where you can play. Go have fun in college and if you're good enough the NFL will find you. But some kids just want the social experience in college. They rather go to Ohio State and sit on the sidelines as long as they get to experience that Ohio State football player life of going to NY6 games their entire career.

Yes. Some of these schools are selling s lifestyle, not playing time.

Haener has already announced he’s back to UW. And why would he transfer to WSU just to back up JDL? He’d be better off just staying at Fresno.

Anyone finds this to be a huge gamble on DeBoer part? Yes, Haener is a really good QB, but you are getting him for one year. I believe he's a grad transfer. Is he the player to put UW in the Rose Bowl? Doubt it. Morris is already most likely gone, now what will Huard do? Just an interesting message to send to the QB room on Day One.

Considering the QB play they rolled out this year, how not ready Huard is, and that they will be running his offense and Haener knows it I think it’s their only chance to have competent QB play next year honestly. So I don’t see it as a risk more like a necessity. I don’t know anything about the receivers at Fresno but wouldn’t surprise me if one or two portalled to UW as well.

The message to be sent is that they suck. And now they have to compete.

My original comment was mostly sarcastic, I don't think there's a real chance of landing him.

It creates an interesting scenario though. I would assume that Haener is the presumed #1. If the competition in camp is even close, the Tyee club is going to press for Huard...since he's a legacy and Haener already bailed once. How does deBoer react to that...and what does Haener do if Huard beats him?

Surprised no one has mentioned/ complained about the fact that this is now our reality where recruits/ players just follow their coaches around.

The UW taking Jacob Eason in, screwed up their whole QB supply at the UW. I get Haener wanting to transfer, loves his coach, but in the long run the question remains, is this what is best for your program?

Since you opened that door...

I think the portal goes too far. I've always felt like there should be an allowance for transferring when there's a coaching change, and that any recruit who just signed an LOI should be automatically released from it on request if the coach leaves. But turning it into wide open free agency every year doesn't make sense.

Like it or not, you have to learn to deal and work it to your advantage to obtain success. I don't like it either but as they say "It is what it is".

How bout the wild free agency for coaches? Did you see the video of Kelly’s speech at the 7am team meeting?

Pretty sure I mentioned coaching changes. Didn't see the video, there are few things I care less about that Notre Dame.
