Trap Game

It’ll be tough game for us, but it will be for them as well. They’ve had consecutive games vs. USC and UW, and it’s tough getting up for games 3 consecutive weeks. After running up and down the field vs. USC (something we were doing before JDL went out), the Beavs gained only 290 yards vs. UW yesterday. We’ll have trouble with their tight ends, but it should be a great game.

OSU should be the favorite and they earned that right with their recent wins.
However, JDL is getting better and the team is more in sync. If JDL can have a true breakout game then this is winnable. Defense doesn't have to shut a team out - just keep it within reach.
Should be a good one.

Beavs haven’t been the Cougs in a LONG time. I think that will be motivation as well as staying on top of the North to keep them focussed.

Of course. They’re 4-1 and at the top of the standings for a reason. I’m interested to see how we’ll compete.

Pretty sure Smith and WSU's coach hate each other. OSU will be prepared.
Where did you hear or read that? OSU may have a really effective answer to any rabbit WSU can pull out of their hat right now. There's a reason they didn't offer JDL.

Yea, the mighty Beavs know a lot more than Ohio State, USC, and every other program out West.

His confirmed offer list was Ohio State, USC, BYU, San Diego St., Hawaii, with Georgia flying out to Hawaii to visit with him, where de Laura told them he was 100% committed to WSU.

That’s a pretty good offer list, certainly by WSUs standards.

What are the chances we are not mentally ready to play a full 60 minutes?
For homecoming? After being on the road the past 2 weeks and coming off a win? Not likely.

We might lose, but we’ll come ready to play.

If JDL and McIntosh play all 4 quarters, (or Max).....and the fact that nobody likes losing to Oregon State......I think that's enough motivation.

We'll be ready and eager to win, (more than they will)..... coming off that high from SC and UW, could like be the Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx.

Notice how McIntosh is referenced before Bhorgi? Let's be honest. His numbers are simply better, and numbers don't lie.

The interview that the OSU player had after the game on the PAC network was noteworthy, in that he recognized that they can't look at their record and instead have to go into each game as though it was the first of the season. Exactly the right sentiment.

But, as we all know, recognizing that is a different thing from actually pulling that off. On paper we are well matched. I think the team most mentally ready for this game will win. We'll have to wait until Saturday to know which team that is...

Saying the right thing is one thing but I don't see OSU looking at us with a sense of danger. Especially after beating UW and USC and getting a ton of love from the press. It's only natural to look ahead to games on the schedule which stand between them and a conference championship.

I understand your point, etown...but every game on their schedule stands between them and a conference championship. It would be great if they were overconfident; I'd be very happy if that were the case!

BUT, every OSU alumn has one saying "don't lose to WSU".

I dont think they'll consciously overlook us, but they've had two emotional weeks back to back and thoughts of a special season brewing are creeping into their heads. They are due for a letdown and a game on the road against a rival appearing to be on the downswing is a tough draw.

This thread is cracking me up. Which group of 20 year old will be more ready to play? Toss a frickin coin man- which RBs girlfriend will break up w him this week, which kid will be butthurt that he’s not starting and won’t have his mind right and miss his assignment leading to sack/fumble or 80 yard TD. Who knows!?

We are at home and if it’s a good crowd it should be an advantage. I’ll be there and I hope the win against Cal put some juice back in this fan base and the team.

The beavers are going to run the ball, and then run the ball, and then run some more. Not sure how our D will hold up for 4 quarters of that.

If they look anything but surprised...we'll ALL be surprised. Now, if they give the ball back to offense and keep the TOP somewhat equal...we'LL ALL surprised . If the defense can do that..Dickert and the d staff are earning their pay checks...whatever that is- because I believe it's never been reported. If they report those salaries...we'll ALL be surprised!

I think you are right about OSU trying to run first (and second, and third). Yes, our interior linemen need to have a good game, but so do the DB's. You can pretty much count on us having to be man to man on pass D so we can fill the box.

We were doing pretty well, but when any team has to play the 2nd half with their 3rd string QB, it's game, set, match.
Not getting a first down in the entire 3rd quarter is not a recipe for team success.

LOL wear people down? Like who? Purdue?
I think he’s anticipating like what we’ve seen in recent Apple cups. Not sure I agree OSU can beat us down to that extent, but we’ve certainly seen this play out before.
The offense has to move the damn sticks and keep the defense fresh though. When you play a body blow team like this you can’t be a 3 and out machine or 4 yard runs will start turning into 40 yard runs. They absolutely need a better start to finish offensive effort than against Cal.

It seems pretty simple. If we sustain drives, we will probably win. If we don't, we won't. We need at least a couple of first downs each possession to keep the D fresh. I suspect this will be a 4 score game to win, and the only reason I don't think it will be 5 is that a WSU/OSU game is likely to feature so many running plays, the clock will run a lot. Could be a relatively low total number of plays in this game due to the amount of running plays.

Like so many games, turnovers will play a big role. If Cougars could be on the plus side, that bodes well. I suspect with JDL at QB, we will have more success taking advantage of turnovers than we had at Utah. But who knows?

Glad Cougar

They physically kicked USCs ass. The refs tried all game to keep it close. Didn't matter. If the Cougs can't stop the run nothing else will matter. The beavs could've beat USC without throwing one pass all game

The Seattle Times had a pretty upbeat article on the Coug D this morning. My own sense is we are pretty good against the run and not so good against an accurate passer (see USC). OSU is 4-1 but only a 3 point favorite. If JDL had been healthy all year and Rolovich hadn't made such a horrible miscalculation about who to start in the Ist game it isn't that hard to imagine the Cougs being 4-1.

Exactly this. OSU had 48 yards passing last week. They don't have anyone like Drake London.

Not many teams do. I couldn’t believe the problems Watson had with London but he catches everything near him.

DBs should be able to lock down anything through the air, the front 7 are going to need to buckle up their chinstraps and hold their gaps.
