.. is reportedly hotly pursuing Rick Pitino for their next basketball coach. Their very influential boosters are pursuing this. Money is no object. That will make some coug boosters winch.

Pitino can coach like a mother. UCLA will definitely toughen up and he can still close. There's enough talent in So Cal - and even if not, he's recruited nationally for so long that he can get into any living room in the country.

The lack of special Adidas money might make that more difficult but he'll still bring in talent and coach them up. Wouldn't surprise me if he brought his son with him - kind of struggling at Minnesota this year and maybe setting him up for coach-in-waiting.

If Pitino isn't it, Gregg Marshall at Wichita State would be Howland with an offense. Tremendous coach - teams are tough as hell. I watched his Winthrop team de-pants Notre Dame in the NCAA live a few years ago and they were relentless.

Big bank to get both of them. Either would immediately toughen up the Bruins which I think they have been lacking under Alford.

Or they throw the kitchen sink at Few - though he knows he has the safest job in America and may just stay put until he decides it is time to go. He may feel it's time to pass the baton to Tommy Lloyd - who knows? But it would take HUGE money to make that happen. And, frankly, I don't think he's up for the challenge. He's by far the luckiest man in the world in that Fitz got wrongly forced out, then Monson bailed and nobody was left on the bench except Few. He's got Gonzaga on auto-pilot/reload mode. UCLA might be too much visibility and work for him. No fly-fishing in SoCal.

Evidently the biggest donor at UCLA is not pulling for his hire. They will have to outlay a lot of cash to find the right guy. It is interesting that one of the biggest basketball schools does not have chartered flights for its basketball team

Pitino's a great coach but landing in Westwood would be everything that's wrong with College Basketball.

Marshall is the kind of coach they need but I think the boosters and fans would complain like they did with Howland.

Few will never leave GU and UCLA would be a tough fit for him. UCLA expects their coaches to be out front and center and that's not Few. He won't even do halftime interviews on TV. Does he do post game radio? He's in the perfect spot.

I finally got my first viewing of UCLA last night as OSU handled them pretty easily. What a collection of playground performers. No semblance of fundamentals or team play. (Sound familiar?) These guys are tall, quick, extremely athletic...but appear to be some of the dumbest players I've witnessed. Dribble, dribble, cast off from 3-point land. Nothing but one-on-one play. I've seen more cohesiveness at the local YMCA. If and when they win a game, it's simply a case of a rat ball player or two getting hot. Wow, this conference is a mess.

Glad Cougar

Alford under achieved every year. Howland was doing a good job, but got talked in to taking a couple of under achieving 5 star kids, that hurt the program. That is not an easy job despite the profile of the school. Or maybe because of it

After watching the miracle comeback in regulation and win in OT vs. Oregon the other night, little Murray Bartow might be coaching himself into a job.

It was among the top 5 unbelievables I've ever seen in a basketball game. No way they should have taken that game into overtime. No way they should have won. Oregon literally did everything possible to lose when they had the game won. Repeatedly. And again in OT.

UCLA will want a name but it will be interesting to see what Bartow can do the rest of this year. His pops certainly could coach so he has the genes.

Murry Bartow looked helpless last night in Corvallis. I don't necessarily blame him....he has a collection of street ball players who all think they should be the star and would rather stand outside the 3-point line clapping for the ball. If he can mold that group into a semblance of a team, they should take off the interim tag.

Glad Cougar

Wait - UCLA beat Oregon the other night? Hell I was watching that game near then end while having a post-work refreshment, then mentally tuned it out once Oregon had it in the bag.

Can't remember the last time I watched a Beav game.

The Oregon game was unreal.
