He doesn't really have the top end speed to run the edge in the NFL, so he needs to be a power runner between the tackles to compensate for that. He isn't, and his last season he was very tentative with the ball. That's not going to work in the NFL.
He still could be a situational back, with the ability to take the catch out of the backfield and turn it into yards. But there are a very limited number of NFL slots for someone with that skillset, and right now all of them are filled by guys who are far more proven than he is.
In short...I hope he finished his degree.
Agree with almost everything everyone is saying, but that lack of speed thing is a myth. At 1 time, Borghi had the fastest time, was the fastest on team.
And in P5 games he turned on the jets, got open by pure speed.
Borghi's problem is that altho he can catch ball in backfield, and good in the open field, and has top speed, and has semi ok power, etc, he is not shifty, does not juke, cutback well, does not make defenders miss, or do glancing, deflective, semi miss blows, and does not have great vision, etc. He can block, follow blocks, hit holes, but can't hit, slide, knife thru creases.
The problem is Borghi needed James Williams ability, and James Williams needed some of Borghi's abilities. If James Williams and Borghi could have been combined into a 1 RB, then that RB, would have been drafted an or made a NFL roster, etc.
Speed is not enough for in betweener semi smaller guys like Borghi.
A guy like Borghi needs to have good vision, juking, cutback, make defenders miss, hit holes, creases, follow blocks, block, Speedy, some power, won't go down semi easily if blow on them, touch them, catch ball, run good routes.
Borghi wasn't the complete package, and needed to be in order to be at his size, frame.
And he needed to not be injury prone.
That's why Borghi wasn't drafted, not making rosters, etc.
But Borghi is very very fast, speedy, and probably fast enough.
Like you said there is a place for somebody like him who can catch the ball in backfield and turn that into 4,5,6,7,8 yards consistently, but as you said, there is a lot of competition, and they are proven, while he is not.
Borghi's s best course is to go arena league, XFL, USFL, CFL, Canada, etc, play 1,2,3,4 years of awesome highlights at that level, and then try to make NFL rosters.
That and getting his degree would be good.
