Does anyone have any concerns about the upcoming games and the fall weather. There are 3 games at home Cal, Ariz and UW and Colo in Boulder. The Cal and UW are night games and according to my 7 day forcast it is suppose to be raining and a high in the 50's for the Cal game. Has Minshew ever played in cold conditions or snow before.

I have been a little concerned about the weather too. Minshew is a tough kid, but throwing the ball in bad weather can be problematic.

I think the weather is gonna play to our advantage. I don’t see this team, players, coaches letting something like that get to them. We will practice in it and we will play just fine in it.

Arizona and Cal ain’t gonna like it

Tate was slinging against Oregon. If that remains the game plan the rest of the season I'll take Minshew over Tate's arm.

I have confidence in Gardner to prepare and play the best of his ability.

Remember our opponents have to play in the same weather too. I am sure Borghi is no stranger to inclamate weather and others on the team are used to it.

Looking at Minshew’s history he played in Philidelphia against Temple in 2016.

The temperature at the 7:30 game time was 45 degrees and it dropped to 40 degrees during the game.

His stats for that game were 21 of 34 for 183 yards 1 TD and no picks. Obviously Eastern’s offense is nothing like ours in terms of fit but he didn’t make glaring mistakes that day. His crummy ECU team just got clobbered.

So he has played in low temperature games.

As far as rain I’m sure he’s seen it coming from muggy Mississippi and playing in North Carolina. He’s seen rain. He’s seen cold weather.

I have confidence in him.

Although everyone in this thread seems to be shrugging that off, personally do wonder if it could be a factor. You have to know with his history he has predominantly played in warm weather. Also have noticed to date every game this season has basically been in ideal conditions. All of the next 4 could be drastically different .

This is awesome. I was getting ready to post something similar, having viewed his games at ECU quickly to see if any looked like they would have been in cold weather, but I didn't actually go pull the Philly weather report for that Temple game. Bravo.

I will say, though, having moved to a warmer climate recently, that warm rain is a hell of a lot different than 40-degree rain, the kind we saw against Portland State a few years ago.

He also wouldn't have played in cold conditions, barring freak cold snaps, at any point in Mississippi growing up or in juco ball there.

I suspect Minshew will be fine, adapting to it like he does everything else, but it's worth keeping in mind. It's not about toughness -- it's about your hands being able to be used the same way you're used to, which, for me at least, isn't the case when 40-degree rain is pouring. My hands freeze and I can't do anything.

It’s alrady 40 in Pullman and he and the receivers have been practicing in it and will be all week. I guess anything can happen in weather but both teams have to play in it. Wet balls can be fumbled on running plays too. This passing offense gets thousands of reps in all sorts of weather they will be fine.

Yeah cold and rain can be a real problem but with a whole staff ready to keep him as warm and dry as possible.

I don’t know what the rules are for this but if it is permitted I would spray our balls with a superhydrophobic coating like this.

And then all gloves. I’m sure there is some super thing warm glove for QBs too.

But basically with the gloves and ball sprayed water will not stick or soak in. It will just bounce off the surface.

Warm gloves and basically your hands are warm and moisture free as is the ball.

You could do the jerseys and pants too and basically the uniforms, ball, gloves all stay dry.

No idea if it is legal, but if it is I would totally do that. Let the kids practice in it and then bring on the crazy weather. Their hands are warm, the ball is forever dry, and no water is sticking to their jerseys or hands.

Most of our guys should remember last year's embarrassment and be pretty focused, despite the weather. We were ranked in the top 10 last year too, until our game with the bears.

Honestly, I would take GODNER up to Bluewood for a practice day and have him throw the football around.

Agree. The weather is already cold in Pullman and weather forecast is for some rain. They will confront this weather everyday on their way to class and CML will have them out of the bubble and practicing in it. Arizona, Cal and, temperature-wise, even uw will not have this opportunity. I agree that they will be ready. If not then it is on them. No excuses.

It's an El Nino year, won't get real cold, everything is falling into place. I am not concerned about the weather, what I am concerned about is our opponents.

Cal, kicked our ass last year, we came in with a big win streak, ranked in the top ten, and Wilcox and his D and Baldwin and his O, out played us, and won big.
Colorado, on the road in Boulder is never easy, and life time CML has a losing record against Colorado.
Arizona, running QB's always cause us problems, if AZ and Tate get on a roll, like he was supposed to, remember he started the year as a Heisman candidate. Tate smoked us on his own last year.
UW- they have had our number for 4 years, and frankly they have several players on that team that will get drafted next year, the Cougs, maybe 1 or 2.

Winning all 4 won't be easy, and for all these people that say, just win out and we are in the PAC 12 championship game. That's a much taller task than most people realize. Cal and AZ weren't great teams last year and we lost to both of them. Sure we can win all 4, and I think 3-1 gets it to the Pac 12 Championship, but 2-2 or 1-3 is not out of the question.

HeyCougPatrol - how did you hack into roses04's WW account?

I think he's trying to make sure we don't get over-confident and start taking our opponents lightly. Maintaining a level head is more important now than ever. 1 game at a time.

That was actually pretty funny Loyal, however here are some numbers that may surprise some of you. In conference we have played Utah, USC, OSU, Oregon, and Stanford, our record against those teams the past 4 years, not counting this year is 11-4. and this year we are 4-1 to this point for a 15-5 record over the last 5 years, pretty damn good when you look at the competition. Now for the shocker, our record versus Cal, Colorado, and Arizona over the past 4 years is 5-6, throw in the UW and it's 5-10, those were the Haliday and Falk years. But we are 1-3 versus Cal during that time and 2-2 against AZ, and 2-1 versus Colorado, and I don't want to mention the last team.
Not trying to be negative, as I do believe this team is special with Menshew, but I try not to ignore history when looking at the future.
