Update on Minshew

Gardner Minshew prepared for familiar and unfamiliar water in second NFL season

The immediate quote signifies why he had the 6th best Wonderlic score in NFL history. “I learned, I think it was, five offenses in four years in college, which doesn’t even make sense.”I like the idea of him coming back as the head coach of WSU faster than say Graham Harrell who could of been a HC in the Pac 12 at 33. He might have a long storied career in the pros (good for WSU), but if he didn't or had 9 years in the NFL...I'd hire him immediately as a HC in Div I. I think he's that smart and motivated.

Without having coached a practice yet? Just boom, HC at a P5 school?

yeah there's a fair bit to learn before jumping in at that level that has nothing to do with schemes or even techniques. Managing time, practices, personalities, learning what sort of assistants work best for you and why, on and on. Sure he'll know the Xs and Os, and I'm sure he'd be a hit with the media wherever he went, and might initially even recruit well. But there's a lot of stuff we don't see as fans that you need to know how to do, for yourself, before you're a head man in the bigtime. As a QBs coach I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. But a head man has a LOT on his plate.

Yeah, QB coach, Co Offensive Coordinator, even Offensive Coordinator or maybe even Co Assistant Head Coach, groom him to be the next HC, like Lake, but HC, with no coaching experience, let alone HC experience, HELL NO.

He may well make his way to WSU as HC one day. I don't think it would be a long term tenure. I think the South has a pull on Southern guys.
